World's Best Shopping Street?
Don't know that this is the right place for such a thread, but what do people think?
Is it Oxford Street, London? Is it Fifth Avenue, New York? Is it the Champs-Elysees, Paris? Or is it somewhere completely different...Tokyo? Hong Kong? Melbourne? Let me know

Oxford and Regents Street are very good, but there isn't as much diversity on those streets compared to some others. I haven't explored the entire length of the Champs-Elysees or Fifth Avenue, but I'd suggest perhaps an unlikely rival, Bloor Street in Toronto.
Bloor's strength lies in its length and its diversity of retail. At one end lies the Mink Mile, Toronto's high end shopping strip. Forbes recently ranked it the 7th most expensive shopping street in the world. Almost all the major luxury brands are there or are in the process of locating there. It's also home to the largest men's luxury store on the continent, Harry Rosen. There are 3 department stores: the ultra high end Holt Renfrew, one middle of the road store operated by Hudson's Bay, and beyond the Mink Mile there's a massive bargain basement store called Honest Ed's. This area is called the Annex, but also a small section called Mirvish Village. The area is characterized by independent book sellers, boutiques, restaurants, and a thriving artistic community. After that there's Korea Town which offers a different retail experience entirely. Beyond that is a mismatch of retail from a myriad of immigrant groups for about 10 kilometres. Bloor Street might not be everyone's choice, but it's certainly worthy of consideration due to the scale and diversity of retailing experiences available.

What is needed to be considered as "world's best shopping street"?
- Presence of certain chains? - The more expensive, the "better"? - Diversity in quality (everything from low-end to high-end present in one area)? - Diversity in available goods? |
