Some other great places that I like by genre...
For Brazilian go for Carne Vale on Avenue B in the East Village for drinks Plataforma (49th) Brazil Grill (8th & 48th) for rodizio For Thai Go to Vong Thai Kitchen in the Upper East Side for terrific Chicken Satay and Tamarind Beef. Great curries, Pad Thai is excellent and amazing Tom Yum soup at the Royal Siam Thai ( 8th and 22nd in Chelsea) for Cuban food Guantanamera on 56th and 8th is the ABSOLUTE BEST.. get the pressed sandwiches.. Espana is the best. The Picadillo Empenadas and cilantro sauce is to die for and the grilled calamari comes in this succulent garlic sauce, you'll love it. The Cuba Cafe on 8th is a Manhattan institution. It is in Chelsea near 20th and you have to try the Camarones en Salsa Pina Ardiente if you do go. For Vietnamese try the Saigon Grill on University place near 11th and get the Ga Nuong Xa Platter and Bo Xao Xa Ot (my favorites) for BBQ It may or may not be closing down (not sure) but I stumbled upon the Dinosaur when I was photo touring in Morningside Heights. It has a great pulled pork cuban sandwich and all the fixings ( cole slaw, macaroni salad, fried green tomatos) Texas Rotisserie on Fulton Street is a household favorite here.. great Jalapeno Poppers and Buffalo wings and baby back ribs you could die for smothered in BBQ sauce. Brother Jimmy's on 77th and 2nd...went there a few months back and loved it. Awesome Po' Boys Dae Dong and Shilla for Korean Barbecue and they are both on 32nd in Koreatown My favorite Seafood spot is Rocco's on Charles street and the Fatty Crab on Hudson between Gansevoort and Horatio I went to the Stage Door Deli today and got the grilled chicken caesar salad wrap and thought it was ill...that is on 8th near Penn Station. Local favorites for me Perilla on Jones Street (it's alright) for I guess continental? Kinda snooty. Waverly Inn on Bank Street (it's a cute little spot) and a Village landmark. Corner Bistro on Jane street and West 4th Rafaella is on Bleeker and Perry street. White Horse Tavern is also close by on Hudson and West 11th andddd the Miracle Bar If you want Sushi I will need a few days to list... ![]() hope this helps you.

Some other suggestions would be; Broome Street shopping, Hanging around Union Square (farmers market on the weekends) For the Broadway show...Check out "Hair" I saw it a couple weekends ago and it was phenominal. For food see my above list as it pertains to you as well. Take the circle line cruise instead of Ellis Island. If you do Ellis Island you will be thoroughly searched before getting on the ferry...forget Statue of Liberty (I know it wasn't on your list) the crown tickets are booked till September and by then I bet they'll be booked till March. Lines, Lines, Lines...be prepared. However for Ellis Island, the registry room is AMAZING...quite majestic and thrilling to stand inside knowing that a century ago it was probably packed with the immigrants that helped to build this country. Don't forget to Top of the Rock for the best views in the city.

Village Yokocho (Stuy St/Third Av) is my fave, though. Best Japanese tapas style food for a good price. And indeed, for any tourist who wants awesome views, Top of The Rock is much better than ESB. Cheaper, more room, better views and classier.

Great thread. I'm going to NY for six days starting on the 7/25 and I already have a huge list of things I want to do (did a LOT of research). I'm also probably going to do most of the things mentioned in this thread too. I just have a two questions though,
What would be the best way to get around? Taxis would be way too expensive and I don't really like taking taxis, the subway sounds good and I'll probably take it a few times but I prefer being able to see the city. The only choice when getting around really crowded areas would obviously be walking. But what about cycling? In the less crowded areas would this be a viable option? I can walk around no problem, but I want to see lots and I'll be going all over the city and it's way too big for walking. Also between 7/25 and 8/1, are there any festivals or events or anything? Thanks. |

![]() JULY Saturday July 25th Washington Sq. Summer Fair (on Bleecker St. from Broadway - 6th Ave. ) Sunday July 26th 52nd Association Jazz Festival (on 52nd Street from Lexington - 7th Avenue) Friday July 31st Manhattan Youth Fair (on Greenwich St. from Barclay - Chambers Street) AUGUST Saturday August 1st The C.O.R.E. Health Expo (on 7th Avenue from 47th - 57th Street) Sunday August 2nd Festival of the Americas (on 6th Avenue from 42nd - 56th Street) I'm guessing these are just for Manhattan. There may be more in the outerboroughs, especially Brooklyn.

How much can I expect the cheapest hotels in Manhattan to cost? I really want to visit but I've heard it's extremely expensive.

Sure. You could also visit the Skyscraper museum, assuming you're into skyscrapers.

New York in July
Im going to New York in July 2010. I now its not the best season to visit Manhattan, but I will have a very limited freetime next year to go on holidays, and July appears as my savior.
I was told that summers in NY are stifling. Can you tell me please, the average temperature in summer days? -Advantages of going in summer? -Disadvantages? Thanks in advance!

summer is the best time to go. its usually 60s-90s. I think the city is just gorgeous in the summer, full of trees in bloom, sidewalk cafes, etc.
