Question: I have to change planes in New York....only problem is with different airports, is it possible to get from JFK to Newark Airport with 4 hours between the flights?

A cab can get you from JFK to Newark in an hour if thereīs no traffic. Or you can take the bus to Manhattan (Grand Central) and then the bus to Newark, or the train. I mean, itīs possible but it can get tricky if your flight is late and there is major traffic etc.

I'm looking to spend about a week in NYC this summer. What would be the minimum amount of money I'd need to do it? This is assuming I'm staying in a hostel, eating street food/fast food, and just walking around.

Stay in NJ , that will save you a ton of money, travel by the PATH , don't take a cabie. They might try to scam you , The Region has the Best Transportation system in North America. hmmmm min amount , i guess 3000$ between the Street food , Hostel , Transportation , and museum fees , and also its best to have a little extra cash.

You should take the Air Train form JFK to the Jamaica Center Station and the J line to Broad Street Station and then walk over to the PATH Station at the WTC. Take the WTC-Newark Penn line on the PATH , then at Newark Penn Catch a NJT train to the Airport , all of this should take 45-50 mins vs. a Bus or Taxi in NYC / NJ that can take up to 2 hrs sometimes with Traffic , and there is always traffic.

$3000 minimum? Even if I stay in a hostel? That seems a little...well, outrageous.

maybe 2000$ , but it is NYC were talking about.......I only go to NYC to see a show or to a Museum otherwise i go back to NJ , and eat and drink. Other than streetfood ,NYC is expensive , they Tax everything. It cost me 3$ for a soda and ice. But there are tours that are inexpensive and other stuff and there's always the New Jersey Gold Coast to explore its like a mini NYC but for half the price. There are alot o things still in NYC , but do research before you go , because it might be expensive.

Yes, that would be the fastest way. However, if you have big luggage itīs hell - I would never do it.

Then use the New York Penn Station and take NJT Northeast Corridor line train to Newark Airport.

i stayed in NY for 10 days, and i spent about $1500 (excluding hotel and flight). did all the seightseeing, including costly restaurants and clubs and buying souvenirs. so i guess you are good with ~$1000, maybe more - depends on where you will stay.

Interesting , i guess you know how to cut corners , i usually burn through my 150$ limit in NYC in 3 hrs , unlike Jersey City where i never break it. idk about Clubs & most restaurants but you should be able to get by on 300$. But be warned everything in NYC is extremely high compared my state or outside the city. Ask a local where the cheap stuff is and good grub.....

I spend so much money in New York. It's ridiculous. Though it isn't because the costs are so high, it's because it's a hell of a lot cheaper than here. So I go to town!

yeah now as you mention it, i have to see how it was even possible to get away with $1500 ... pretty "cheap" ha? maybe next time i'll stay in jersey city (hotel, food etc.) and go by PATH (now that i have some experience) to NYC, so i can cut my expenses even more lol.

EDIT: best would be a nice hotel nearby the jersey PATH station.
