The Line 1 south extension is essential a brand new line, it's called an extension so it's easier to get approved from the State Council. Once the restriction on infrastructure is loosen the line will likely be renamed.

No, it's the west branch that will be renamed, as line 10. The south extension will remain as line 1.

Wow Nanjings stations are really nice. I actually think they are among the better ones in China.

Does anyone know, when the 3. line will be opened? It should be another south-north line, right?

Does the Hong Kong MTR have anything to do with Nanjing Metro? The station design and signage is quite similar...

Piano key stair appears in Nanjing Metro Line 2, the keys are not real but it sense people passing by and plays a short note.

Nanjing Metro Line 3 tunnel boring started on Feb 12th 2012, this particular Herrenknecht AG TBM (#18) was used to bore tunnels of Line 1 Southern Extension. Line 3 will cross the Yangtze and become another North-South main line for the city. It's expected to be completed before the 2014 Youth Olympics.

In Milan the transit authority did it better: the Piano key stairs in the Duomo metro station were true!

I really hope Nanjing's metro system will be built the way it is envisioned, before the money runs out.

Money is not gonna run out anytime soon, there is the 2014 Youth Olympics so Nanjing Government at least has to rush Line 3 through.

Currently the lines under construction:
Line 3 Phase 1
Line 3 West Extension (cross the Yangtze)
Line 4 Phase 1
Line 6 Airport Line
Line 10 Formerly Line 1 West Extension (cross the Yangtze)
Line 11 Nanjing - Tianchang Metropolitan Express Line, Design finalized and site under prep
Line 12 Nanjing - Hexian Metropolitan Express Line, pending environmental impact study.

Out of those Line 3, 3W, 6, 10, and 11 are all suppose to be completed before the 2013 Youth Olympics.
