Ahh not exactly true, be carefull they have radar in the SLEX and they acost you when you pay your toll at the booth. I've some friends who've already experienced this , they were quite surprised that somebody actually monitored them and since they were guilty as charged all they could do was turn over their license. I think NLEX has the same system though I've not encountered anyone who's had a direct experience.

Definitely in Metro roads it's not monotirored but only a fool would drive so fast if you could even get the chance to speed up at all!

Here in the US when one exceeds the speed limit or passes a red light, some traffic lights are equipped with a camera so one will just be surprised when he receives his mail with a citation and his picture in the speeding car and the plate license number up-close. There is no denying it. It happened to my uncle and he showed us the summons and the pictures.

Same thing here. Some roads have speed sensors with a camera (not hidden at all) which would take pics of the plate number and the driver. Exceed the speed limit and you get a surprise in the mail.

IN CEBU, the only roads with speed limits are:

The Marcelo Fernan Bridge @ 60kph max
The Mandaue-Mactan Bridge@ 30kph max
The North Road @ 80kph max
The South Road @ 80kph max
The South Coastal Highway @ 100kph max

Other than that, no more

No cops. No stops!

Florida is quite strict in enforcing the rules, I was ticketed for driving two miles over the limit! I was going 47 mph in a 45 mph zone.

WOW! And how did they know that you were running at 47mph?

I got clocked by their speed gun going down the highway, and it was a $150 fine ($100 for speeding itself and $50 for every 5 mile increment above the speed limit.)!

They also set up "speed traps" where motorists can fall prey to and be fined, they usually set these up at the end/beginning of each month, guess they have to meet their monthly quotas.

and yet there are spray products that you can use on your plates to make it unreadable to the cops.

@ kimber - lol! tough luck. Here in Vancouver, cops will let you exceed the speed limit by as much as 10kph, anything more than that will get you pulled over.

The common assumption is five miles over the limit is fine, I argued my point with the cop and he said "The sign doesn't say 45, plus 5. Just 45mph." I didn't press the issue further, I was just the victim of bad luck and being at the wrong place at the wrong time doing the wrong thing.

This reminds me of The Amazing Race episode when Manila was featured. The cab driver of one of the teams volunteered to say "...over 100(kph) is prohibited here but we have no choice but to break the law."

2 months ago, an unmarked police Camaro got me. It was a CHP (California Highway Patrol-- taaantaantatantaaan! Eric Estrada! LA 7 Merry 6!) in a police Camaro! Definitely faster than my Volkswagen. Anyway, he clocked me going 11 m.p.h. over the limit. He took my license and registration when I pulled over and I sat there about ready to pee in my pants. I had been ticket free for about 7 years already so my record's already wiped clean.

Anyway, he came back and said. "You better watch your speed now. I'm going to let you go with just this warning."

And I said, "OK. I'll watch myself now. THANK YOU OFFICER!"

So I went, ticketless. Thankful. And now I practice good neighbor driving habits so I can build my good CAR-ma back up.

Driving in the Philippines

I have a question about turning right while you have the red light while driving on Philippine roads. Before, there are roads there that you can still turn right even if you have the red light such as Espana corner M. Dela Fuente, Shaw Blvd. cor. (I can't remember street name), etc. provided you do it carefully. Is that still allowed in some streets in Metro Manila?

Here in NY, making turns while you have the red light is prohibited. No exceptions.

Yes, you can turn right during a red light unless there is a sign posted that prohibits it. Same with Vancouver, thats why eastern Canadians get confused because red light right turns are prohibited over there.

On second thought, im not so sure. I remember being able to turn right during red light, but maybe its because people just break the traffic laws anyways.
