BERLIN | Zoofenster (Waldorf-Astoria) | 118m | 31 fl | Com

Construction of the 120m "zoofenster" - highrise started in the City West of Berlin, next to Bahnhof Zoo. Actually it was planned in the 90s, they had some problems with investors but now Harvest, an Abu Dhabi based company will errect the 180 million € project.
There will be office-space, flats and a Waldorf-Astoria hotel, including conference room, ballroom and a wellness center!

It's already U?C? That surprises me a bit with the finance crisis going on, but this definitely is great news for Berlin, let's hope for more project to be U/C in Berlin, like the Atlas Tower (http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=7934 ) .

That's the best way to describe this project I really don't like the strange window in the tower. But of course this is the main idea behind the whole buidling - a window to the Zoo/Tiergarten area.

I am wondering why the 'Schimmelpfenghaus' is still not fully demolished. It does not directly obstruct the construction site - except for the part that has been demolished already. However, the plan was to bring it down.

No, I hope the Atlas Tower is located on a different site than this tower. They shouldn't be on the same site.

A very interesting tower! Such ultramodern megapolis like Berlin needs more tall buildings!

^ They plan to build more tall buildings around Alexanderplatz as well.
Have a look at this thread to get some information, pics and updates

They aren't, but I think they'd need some of its space for the base buildings of the Atlas Tower. While this render shows you the position of the 2 towers, this one makes clear that the Schimmelpfenghaus gotta go This one as well.

And btw, have a look at this news article: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...6#post34258976

It's going to be demolished, zum Glück

What is this "Schimmelpfenghaus", anyway? I posted because I mistakenly thought they were going to demolish the Zoofenster Tower to make way for the Atlas tower even though the Zoofenster is far from completion. You construct a tower and a short while after its completion you decide to tear it down and build another skyscraper in its place. That's a stupid formula. Anyway, the existing building is boring and I am glad it is getting demo'ed.
