Out of them I've been on Singapore, Malaysia, Garuda, Royal Brunei and Thai. I prefer Malaysia because not only is it a 5 star airline, but it also offers competitive prices.

Malaysia Airlines is actually starting to act more like a LOw Cost on shorter hops in eco, Peanuts & cordial for lunch? & a muffin for breakfast on a long-haul flight! what a joke It brings Malaysia to shame, I prefer to fly with air asia and buy my own peanuts! It might as well be 5 stars but I don't think it will stay that way for long. But their cabin crew are very friendly! thats the only good thing I can say about them.

I had a very horrible experience with Singapore or Malaysia but had a good experience with Garuda Indonesia so it won my pick.

I guess everyone has their own preferences Care to share your experience?

I've taken SIA, MAS, PAL, Garuda and Vietnam Air before. Generally, I would say that the airlines in the polls are all very good, though I prefer Cathay Pacific, MAS and Singapore Airlines

I flown on MH, SQ and Thai.

I think Malaysia Airlines offers great service, even though their product may not be exactly great. Snackboxes on short-hauls? Southeast Asian skies hasn't reached Europe's state yet where the legacies offer such things.

Singapore Airlines offers a great product but I think their service is skewed to the premium classes. It's better, and more consistent in First and Business but also more robotic. Economy crews appear to be less experienced, and as a result, are not as robotic as Business and First crews.

I love Thai Airways because they usually offers the best prices out of SIN and while they don't have great service or a great product, it is good enough for me.

But if you ask me which I think is better? I'd say SQ and TG because both offer superior schedules to Europe, Asia, America (because of interline and codeshare) than the other Southeast Asian airline.

By the way, SkyTrax counts Taiwan and Hong Kong as Southeast Asia because those regions are technically part of the Southeast Asian geographical region, but obviously not part of ASEAN, which most of us Southeast Asians identify Southeast Asia by. That's why Cathay Pacific won SkyTrax's Best Airline In Southeast Asia award.

many (or most) peoples here in Malaysia opposed the MAS approach of rivalling head-to-head with AirAsia.

yes, MAS offers a great fare compare to other premium airliners, but having lunch box is something 'not accepted' for a 5 Star airlines.

but guess what. the meal box introduced since 2007, but MAS still in Skytrax 5 Star ranking!!! so, meal is not the issue for skytrax.

everyone should know that MAS was a lost making company 2 years ago...but now got recovered after a massive restructure. no point for any airliners to give 'premium food' when they themselves are losing money...like THAI.

I was on one from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur a few months back. Not a bad aircraft, and it handled well with the rough weather on decent to KLIA. I think Malaysia Airlines only constitutes as a 5 star carrier with the 747-400 and 777-200 but those Airbuses and the 737-400s are adequate for short haul routes. The 737-400s will start to be replaced this year anyway, I remember one and the cabin had a strong smell of sambal.

I have only flown trans pacific with Malaysian and found it absolutely outstanding. Within SE Asia, I flew Air Asia, with great prices. My favorite airline I have ever flown is Malaysian (LAX-KUL). In a few days I will fly Asiana, also a 5-star airline, and I will be able to compare.

Vietnam Airlines' target is to become the second biggest carrier in Southeast Asia by 2015 in term of fleet size and the number of cities that it flies to. Hopefully service will improve along that line as well.
