The CRH- this is from last October http://www.newsday.co.tt/businessday/0,87781.html Instead of a causeway I prefer the idea of something similar to this project-The Bilbao Supersur Autopista(Tolled Freeway). However if built in Trinidad it would be built on a much smaller scale in the backdrop of Port of Spain(foothills of the Northern range) starting from the present day Beetham Highway(with a interchange) so as to connect it with the rest of the upgraded freeway system navigating its way through the foothills and if it runs past say... the back of St. Ann's it could have an expressway linking it to the Port of Spain CBD by the Hasely Crawford Stadium(roughly around that area, like the Aston Expressway in Birmingham, UK does to the M6 motorway(Check it out on google images/map if you haven't seen it)) and the main highway would run unto Diego Martin(possibly further) and of course there would be further overpasses and underpasses especially around POS. http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=429395 |

Upgrades to the interchanges in the highway system will not produce the desired effect unless steps are taken to reduce access to highways from PRIVATE entrances, and restrict access to these roads to junctions with similar highways and other minor roads. Ideally, junctions to "central spine" highways should not be more frequent than every three miles!

Highways
The Uriah Butler Highway is one of the major north-south highways in Trinidad and Tobago, named after Tubal Uriah Butler. It runs from Champs Fleur to Chaguanas where it meets the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway. It crosses the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway at Valsayn. The highway was originally named the Princess Margaret Highway and was constructed in 1958. It was extended and renamed for labour leader Tubal Uriah Butler in 1988. The Churchill-Roosevelt Highway is the major east-west highway in Trinidad and Tobago. It runs for 24 km (15 miles) from Barataria in the west (where it joins the Beetham Highway) to Wallerfield in the east (south of Arima) where it ends in the former US Army base on Fort Reid. It crosses the north-south Uriah Butler Highway at Valsayn. Constructed during World War II to connect the US Army base with Port of Spain, the highway was named for the two wartime leaders, Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Construction began in December 1941 and was completed in March 1942. Originally reserved for the US forces, the road was turned over to the Government of Trinidad and Tobago on October 24, 1949. Phase 2 of interchange to open Friday May 1st 2009. Lets see how well this thing works. Also the Caroni bridge (south bound) has been expanded to 3 lanes. The third lane was opened as of Monday April 27th 2009.

Finally here- Phase two opens this Friday

![]() Does anyone know if the Solomon Hochoy Highway extension to Point Fortin has begun? I know they are planning to construct an offshore island and the Highway being extended further south is essential as the mosquito creek road can't handle the volume of traffic that will be when the island is built. |

Don't expect too much improvement. The El Socorro and Aranguez lights would still cause congestion. Until this entire interchange and the one carded at Aranguez are complete, there would still be traffic problems. On a side note though, anyone have any info on the highways programme the govt is embarking on that is mentioned in the Express article by Mr. Imbert? I tried searching government websites and even AECOM but came up with nada.

I don't mean to mess up the happy feeling of the interchange and all but where is the Solomon Hochoy Highway extension!!!
Does anyone remember this: http://www.caribbeanpressreleases.co...way/Page1.html It's funny how 3 years have nearly gone by yet the San Fernando- Princes Town highway is no where in site aswell as completeing projects like this on schedule they should try do that with the others too and some what 'multitask' that way everything can be done and people will be satisfied. DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHEN THE MINISTRY OF WORKS AND TRANSPORT WEBSITE WILL BE BACK? ITS BEEN DOWN A LONG LONG WHILE. |

Hey I was wondering how the traffic situation is now since phase 2 of the interchange has opened up. Has it eased up some or is it basically the same. And anyone know when the final phase and the interchange at Aranguez are expected to start? TIA.
