Personally, I think Aerolineas Argentinas is not that attractive to alliances because EZE is too far south. Plus, even without a SkyTeam partner in South America, SkyTeam's got the place covered pretty well so far.

Delta is not enough, even if it has fairly good South America coverage from ATL. There's no coverage however within the continent, and that's what SkyTeam needs. I still hope AV will join SkyTeam over Star (Avianca and TACA will choose an alliance together, rather than separately).

While AR is okay, its network is not that comprehensive compared to the other South American majors. Hub location is not an issue as SCL was able to work as a Oneworld hub with LAN, and it's just as far south as EZE.

Lately, the airline has launched new destinations, and there are more on the way (short term)

The thing about Aerolíneas is that It's not focused on more destinations, but yes on having a large amount of flights between them.

Here there's a list of It's ONLY INTERNATIONAL flights. Remember most of the airline flyes domestic.

Asuncion 7 weekly B737 EXCLUSIVE
Auckland 3 weekly A340 EXCLUSIVE
Barcelona 2 weekly A340 EXCLUSIVE
Bogota 3 weekly A340
Caracas 4 weekly A340
Curitiba 7 weekly B737 EXCLUSIVE
Lima 7 weekly B737
Madrid 7 weekly B747
Miami 7 weekly A340
Montevideo 41 weekly B737
Poro Alegre 7 weekly B737 EXCLUSIVE
Punta del Este 2 weekly (LOW SEASON)
Rio de Janeiro 21 weekly B737 EXCLUSIVE
Rome 4 weekly A340
Salvador Bahia 2 weekly B737 EXCLUSIVE
Santa Cruz 7 weekly B737
Santiago Chile 26 weekly B737
Sao Paulo 31 weekly B737

Those EXCLUSIVE are exclusive destinations of the airline in each airport

Here the Skyteam members that fly to EZE

Mexico City x3 | B767-3 | AM
Paris x7 | B777-3ER | AF EXCLUSIVE
Roma x7 | B777-2ER | AZ
Atlanta x7 | B767-3ER | DL
Madrid x7 | A330-2 | UX

The 17th world biggest city, 3rd of Latin America, 2nd of South America and 1st of South Cone is not so well connected by ST, is it?

Vietnam Airlines joining in just 2 days!

Can't wait, it's so exciting as this would place Vietnam Airlines an advantage over other non-aligned Airlines like, PR, MH, GA etc.

Vietnam Airlines has mainly focused on;
- New Business Class Seats, full lie-back, large PTV screen on 777's (looks better than GA's)
- Revamp Golden Lotus Plus to match other members
- More frequencies on chunck routes, SIN, BKK, NRT, ICN x2 Daily, increased KUL services by x3 flights. CDG now x8 weekly
- New Destinations to connect, Yangoon & Shanghai
- New code-share partnership with AF
- New code-share partnership with AL
- New code-share partnership with DL (annoucement soon)
- Axe code-share with AA to optimise membership

Also expect an announcement on shifting services from DMV TO SVO.

I don't see any advantage from VN (or even GA) joining SkyTeam if they don't send their own metal to MNL.

I don't see a South American network from AR comparable in reach to the likes of AV (47 including domestic; excludes SAM, AeroGal, VIP Ecuador, Avianca Brazil and the airlines of Grupo TACA), TAM (53 including domestic; excludes Pantanal Linhas Aéreas and TAM Mercosur) or LAN (34 including domestic; excludes LAN Express, LAN Peru, LAN Ecuador and LAN Argentina). AR currently serves 47 cities in the continent by itself, the bulk of which is, as you mentioned, in Argentina. I'm not sure how much feed AR would possibly be able to give to SkyTeam given the strong competition it will face from the other three airlines and their subsidiaries which provide strong South American feed to their respective alliances.

I'd like to see AR expand its network though in order for it to be more competitive, and perhaps even make its way to SkyTeam if and when AV/TA go the way of Star.

My friend Sky Harbor, Taca and Avianca have only a good coverage of network in just the North of South America, while Aerolíneas leads the South of South America. It has more destinations to Brazil from other country than any other airline and two hubs in the same city (Buenos Aires)

By the way, Aerolíneas serves 54 destinations in 25 countries:

33 in Argentina
1 in Australia
1 in Bolivia (another planned)
6 in Brazil (another coming soon)
1 in Chile
1 in Colombia
1 in Dominican Republic
0 in Ecuador (two planned)
0 in England (one planned)
1 in Italy
0 in Mexico (one planned)
1 in New Zealand
1 in Perú (another coming soon)
0 in South Africa (1 planned)
2 in Spain
1 in United States (another planned)
2 in Uruguay
1 in Paraguay
1 in Venezuela

Well VN does code-share with PR on all their Vietnam flights
But I think ST will pressure them to launch into other parts of SEA soon with their new 16 A321's to be delivered this year. To connect with other SkyTeam partners to optimise the SGN & HAN hubs, SEA hubs for ST from Tomorrow!

TAROM's retrojet now bears the SkyTeam logo.

http://myaviation.net/?pid=01788210

Vietnam Airlines painted an A330 in SkyTeam colors and are officially joining the alliance tomorrow.

Vietnam Airlines joins SkyTeam today! Congratulations to both SkyTeam & Vietnam Airlines!!!

VN's SkyTeam A330 looks like it had a dodgy paint job, VN's logo is a tad too small on the bird? And maybe a little wash for todays ceremony would be good too.

VN has yet to apply ST's logo on all it's jets. How long would this take?

Worst paint job that I've seen that carry the SkyTeam logo. Period.
