Albany | Capital of NY State | April 09, 2009

Finally got around to visiting Albany, the last relatively large city around NYC that I haven't visited before. I knew, more or less, what to expect, but enjoyed the city more than I anticipated to.

I parked right by the museum, which is in the heart of the federal plaza and went up on the 42nd floor observation deck. I would never miss an opportunity of going up on a skyscraper and in addition it makes it convenient to plan how to go about walking around the city.

This beautiful cathedral is over 150 years old

More shall follow.

Albany needs to get rid of its high rise housing projects along the river and needs some new tall buildings. I like Albany but it is the only big city in the US with no new highrises.

Cool pics, thanks for sharing. I love the historical styles...

I don't know WTF they were thinking when creating that awful Empire State Plaza wreck though, incredibly sterile and it ruins the skyline. I hate that egg building. Makes Constitution Plaza in nearby Hartford look harmless in comparison.

That was one of the surprising observations for me as well, they completely lack new modern, residential buildings. On the other hand, besides the federal plaza, it has this very old city feeling consistent throughout the city, which is also interesting.

I actually liked the Empire State Plaza, it's very unusual, though it does feels a bit communistic with all these massive government buildings, but an interesting place to visit. Loved the egg building it makes Albany very diverse.
