Actually, the extension of this first line is going to be very soon on the end of the year, while the second line to Rakovica station on next, since the whole infrastructure 30 km of double tunnels is existing as well as stations there is no reson to be other way.The First impressions of passingers is there is no difference with any other Metro system, trains arrive on time even earlier so that every five minutes you can aboard on train in rush hour, trains are wide and clean with new seats, since this first month is a test period,we can expect improvements especally with info.systems GPS,Smart Card System and renew of existing stations and possible built of a new ones.

Excellent news! Is there a comprehensive map of the new plan for Belgrade Metro? Will it resemble the plan from the 1970's, or is it completely different?

If it's been posted earlier in this thread I apologize for missing it.

To me, Warsaw and Belgrade were the two ex-communist cities that both got short-changed on subways.

The news is really great. Being able to slip under the streets paralyzed with congestion is fantastic and it feels fantastic too.
There are as many subway maps as there are politicians who promised to build it. Until we have a real contract signed those maps worth nothing. All the maps revolve around the same east-west corridor that connects the Old Town with New Belgrade.

There are many excuses why the subway isnít built yet but the sad truth is that nobody had the courage to bight in into a such a big project. All the politicians focused on small things that can be done until next elections.

It is really strange for Warsaw, because Poland was part of Eastern Block, where many smaller cities got a some kind of rail system or subway.

Yugoslavia was not part of Eastern block, and it was kinda semi-socialistic country. That could explain why Belgrade didn't get metro in the early beginning after WWII.

Indicators that Yugoslavia was not pro-Russian country:

American PCC trams in Belgrade during the sixties and seventies.

Britain Leyland bus on the streets of Belgrade

One of rare photo of that time: Coca-cola commercial on east-made tram

Nice shot of one of the new BKM trolleybuses - about ~40-45 have been delivered so far from Belarus, while total order is for 83 vehicles.
