Nice photo of a non-American PCC-tram in Belgrade Built in 1949 in Bruges, Belgium; sold to Belgrade in the early 1960s; retired in the 1980s when one of them was brought back to Belgium (10409):

It is disappointing that there was no awareness of historical heritage. The consequence was cutting the most of old vehicles for scrap metal. Before few months one guy in Belgrade made the petition for saving the oldest trolleybus ZIU in Belgrade, from 1981. and after few articles in newspapers trolleybus was saved.

Fact is that Belgrade is bus oriented city:
- 30% walking
- 20% car
- 50% public transit
In public transport:
- 70% bus
- 12% trolleybus
- 18% tramway (streetcar) (neglected)
- >1% suburban railways (totally neglected)

Thank you for the pictures JayBeeke. My grandfather used to drive the “Belgijanci” and he loved them. The most comfortable trams in Belgrade is what he says. Beside white and red they were also painted in green.

I’m afraid no. Neither city nor the public transport company showed any interest in preserving disused trams.

Over the course of the last few days, Belgraders were asked to vote for one of four offered interior colour schemes of the soon to arrive 30 new low-floor trams from Spanish manufacturer CAF. Since the votes were evenly split between three options, the new fleet will now be multi-colored, at least on the inside - ten trams will have a grey interior, ten blue and ten red:

Another thing that was also just announced - as the last of 30 trams is delivered in late 2012, the City will, following an international tender, purchase a further fifty new trams.

Will these trams be used for all lines or they will be concentrated only to some of them. And please, could you give us more information about what is going on with the tram lines in Belgrade – do they develop new lines, do they just doing reconstruction. And good map for tram lines?

The new trams will run on lines 7, 9 and 12. That doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing them on other lines as well. The new line will be open along with the opening of the new bridge over the Sava River. That’s the only extension planned for now.

We are getting the same “breaking” news for 10 years now. Getting back to reality, the city is renewing its bus fleet at the moment. All new buses must have EURO 5 engines and air-conditioning.
