This shot is fantastic, I love rooftop pictures but the rest of your photos are awesome too. Hamburg looks great, and what lovely weather you had there as well.

Congratulations to your sister on her new arrival and yourself on becoming an uncle.

Many thanks for the wrapup, Uncle Mikael! #117 is really super excellent and shows Hamburg off extremely well.

#116 is the Jakobikirche (St. James). Unlike the other destroyed major churches in Hamburg's downtown area, that congregation chose not to reconstruct according to its previous image but to rebuild in a more modern fashion (the interior has the "oldie" look though if I remember correctly).

That veritable forest of cranes in the Hafencity is impressive (and thanks for the shot of the Elbphilharmonie). I guess it's about the same as in CPH's Ĝrestad, or have things calmed down a bit there?

Triple cheers for this truly outstanding thread!

Hamburg has an undeserved rumour as a boring industrial city, but that is of course not true, and your nice pics showed it.
Nice animals!

In Sweden?

Don't think Hamburg has such a reputation in Germany. Beside the harbour, Hamburg is not really famous for its heavy industries. That is the Ruhr area with cities such as Dortmund, Essen and Duisburg.

Hamburg has always been a trade and service city.

Beside the harbour Hamburg is best known for its trading companies and publishing companies. It is also a major touristic destination in Germany.
Never heard about those rumours.

Thanks for these pics. They are very well photographed.

I will be in Hamburg the first week in April this year. I'm hoping that (judging by these pics) the weather might be similar! I was wondering if spring would be starting by then.

Thanks again all.

@ Darryl: It's about the same time of year as my visit, so it's surely a possibility. I think these were the first real spring days of last year, so I might just have been lucky. I'll cross my fingers for you.

I'm at a loss for understanding why Hamburg has such a low international profile.

One would think that a city of this beauty and wealth would be more well known.

^ Some things might change once this baby is finished

Elbe Philharmonic Hall - Construction thread

It could have a similar iconic value as the Sydney Opera. Well, it definitely will be the new landmark of Hamburg. And it could bump its international popularity / presence a lot.

It will be spectacular!

When do they expect it to be finished?

It's scheduled to be finished and inaugurated by the turn of 2010 to 2011, so not even a year left anymore
