^Yeah. To bad. But with all the planned expansions AMS can grow very fast and maybe take over CDG

Investigation teams just arrived. Most important thing is the casualties at the moment.. They are also flying again via Kaagbaan. Other planes are arriving on Rotterdam Airport for now. Terrible accident

Sorry to hear about the crash and that there were casualties.

On another note:

Okay, sorry I must have mixed up the numbers - I am not sitting at the computer crunching passenger numbers all the time, so the fact that Madrid has crept into the mix is news to me, but my switching the positions for FRA and CDG was purely an oversight..

They should get rid of the vliegtax (fly tax) though. Niederrhein Airport just across the border in Germany saw a huge increase in passengers, some of them are avoiding the Dutch fly tax. But it's also closer for many Dutchmen to drive to Niederrhein (Weeze) than head into the congested Randstad area to fly from Schiphol.

What are the chances of Schiphol getting relocated 100% in the near future? I mean, the area would be ideal to solve the housing shortages in the Randstad, road and rail infrastructure is already present. I'm more a fan of moving Schiphol to the Lelystad/Almere area than into the North Sea, making it prone to bad weather.

KLM‘s special offer to European cities
Published: 2009/02/26

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is offering return fares of RM777, excluding taxes, from Kuala Lumpur to selected European cities today.

Bookings can only be made on www.klm.com.my.

The latest offer comes in conjunction with KLM’s switch to the larger Boeing 777 from the B747-400 on its Amsterdam-Kuala Lumpur-Jakarta route beginning March 29.

“The special offer is a great way to allow our customers to fly despite the current economic uncertainties,” said KLM and Air France country manager
Estee Ng.

You will always end up with space issues in Holland, no matter where you put it - okay, putting the airport on an island in the sea is one alternative, but look what is happening at Kansai Airport in Japan, their airport is on a dedicated island and is sinking rapidly and they are pretty worried about the future of the entire operation.

Regardless, you do make a good point about the possibilities which would come out of having Schiphol relocated to another part of the country. The cost of doing that will be very high *perfect for A'dam.
