Let's assume its regular capacity is 150,000.
150,000 halved means 75,000 for the Mass Games (Where they use their pixel board). But given the press box style rows, this must be less, perhaps at 60,000. Assuming once and for all Pyongyang gets something like an Olympics or Asian Games and wants to use the pixel board for ceremonies, the general capacity (assuming use of all extra seating) will definitely be less, at say 120,000? Maybe 100,000? Can 30 to 50,000 seats be eliminated thanks to the pixel stand? Then you got the athletes and officials, no doubt you want to seat them for the mass gymnastics extravaganza on the field, there's plenty of seating for that, eliminate 15,000 or so seats (of course prime seating looking at the pixel board) and you still got a neat 85,000 or so for general spectators for such ceremonies. The pixel board may or may not stay prior to athletics events, but could possibly be removed prior to athletics, then reinstalled after the finals of football (alternatively the other stadium Kim Ill Sung could serve such a purpose at 70,000), in which you would have athletics end a day early, just to give sufficient time to reinstall the pixel stand. A most definite dramatic and memorable ceremonies. |

The Rungrado Stadium has a floor area of over 207,000 square metres - the largest of any stadium in the world. it has six floors.

although those are nice , it is very easy to find pictures of the exterior / interior pics showing the pixel board during mass games . i think we should try to mainly use this thread to post " rare " pictures showing parts of the stadium most have not seen :P

I beleve that this stadium could have cca 150K. The lower tier is almost as big as Luzniki stadium that has some 80K seats. Rememeber that it is an olympic stadium and that stand are much longer than those on rectangular footbal stadiums.

I'm wondering for a long time, if it's really a 150.000 stadium.
When I first saw the figure I just wanted to se it right away and I was disappointed. My first thoughts: "No way!" But then again, why wouldn't it be. I read some very interesting arguments that the stadium could actually hold up to 150.000 people. But still I voted NO. I don't know why really. Just doesn't give me the right impression. Maybe being there at the place would meka me change my mind. |
