Very nice photos, thanks for sharing.

Sorry a bit off-topic

I kinda get what Pedrogabriel said. When I told my aunt that Hong Kong is a very rich and advanced society based on statistics, she said "really ?" in a sceptical way because she visited Hong Kong 3 years ago. But I think it is the quality of life that counts not some beautiful streets, my friend's step dad is a teacher in Hong Kong (native Hong Konger), and in year 2000 his monthy salary was already US$ 2000. He seems to be fine with everything there.

thanks for the comments.

a bit of grime doesn't reflect poorly on living standards. hong kong is a very wealthy city and people here live comfortably. of course, there's a great disparity in wealth between the absolute poorest and absolute richest, but it's no different than new york city or paris, where there is an almost identical gap in wealth (as determined by the GINI coefficient).

considering the pics and some things else, dont think quality of living is a plus in Hong Kong, on the contrary, that's why I said GDP isnt everything, i.e. Money isn't everything.

yeah, the detail is pretty outstanding. you can find it in the G.O.D. hong kong design museum/street culture gallery in the jockey club creative arts centre, which is a 5 minute walk from shek kip mei MTR.

Hey dude, it really depends on how you define quality of living and what sort of living style you are always looking for. If you are looking at some laid-back lifestyle inside a very large spacious house, yes, Hong Kong is not a "plus" for you.

But if you are a big fans of electronic products, wanting to be surrounded by some of the best shopping centres in the world, at the same time, going to beaches or country parks over the weekend, Hong Kong is truly the place to be for you.

Majority of Hong Kong people in Hong Kong do really enjoy our lifestyles over there and are quite happy with the quality of living.

GDP is not everything, but GDP/capita is something, without such a high GDP/capita, Hong Kong would not be be able to have so many big international brands/colourful shopping centres/business buildings around.

To "Snow is Red".
US$2000 monthly salary is a bit unusually low for teachers. High school teachers with Uni qualification is usually around US$4000-5500 for monthly salary. Come on, even for fresh grad. registered nurse, is already nearly USD$3000 for salary.

In addition, the convenience , the variety of products on the shelves and the energy you can see in Hong Kong, are just simply unmatched by any other cities in the world. Again, it really depends on what you are after in the so-called quality of life. Those rankings of cities of qualities of life are just simply rubbish, as they only reflect the opinion from people of western culture.

I'm not saying Hong Kong is the best in the world. But I don't think Hong Kong is really bad at all after staying in Australia for 11 years and travelling around in Europe.

Well, be there, experience there and talk to the people there, you will discover much more of HK than by just simply looking at all these pictures showing mainly the slum parts of HK.

Awesome photoset!

Hong Kong is definitely one of the best cities in the world, hands down. Nice to have some photos which are more 'gritty' than the general skyline photos.

As for the comments about quality of life, I think it's silly. Hong Kong has some of the world's nicest, cleanest and most high-tech business areas/shopping areas/infrastructure in the world. It also has a lot of 'back alley' type places which add character to the city, and are the best places to eat too

The one bad thing about Hong Kong is the pollution, but I guess a lot of that comes from China so there's not much the city can do about it.
