Last week I was surprised to see an ashtray in the inside of a toilet door in an Air France A380.

Are they already using spare replacement doors from older planes or is it something French?

Oh, the flying experience wasn't that fantastic as every tells. My legs didn't have any more then any other plane. It was as nosy, and it was more busy in the cabin with people walking around then in a smaller plane. The flight was bumpy and the landing in quiet weather wasn't really clean either. And with the boarding starting an hour before take-off they should really go look at ANA how they can load a 565 pax 747-400d in just 15 minutes without having to rush.

Too simple...

It doesn't change the fact that I expected more then what I actually got....

It was just plane, no big differences with the 747, 777 or a A340s I flown on my previous trips from Europe to East Asia. Not the special flight experience that some people make of it. It's just an economical plane, very suitable for long big routes.

btw. I'm still curious about the pointless ashtray in the toilet.

I believe it is standard on new planes where smoking has never been allowed.

Smoking causes fires and fires can really bring planes down. A Varig 707 crashed in France probably due to passengers smoking in lavatory. The theory is that while smoking is strictly forbidden and should trigger smoke alarms, if anyone is so stupid as to smoke in the toilet it is better to have it in the ashtray and merely trigger a fire alarm than have it put in, say, a waste bin and have an actual fire.

I have seen ashtrays in pretty much all new planes' lavatories. I don't know why they're put them, but they are there.

Maybe it's just a matter of expectensions. I flew twice on the A380, once on an Emirates and once on a Singapore Airlines flight. Both excellent experiences, expecially the Emirates flight from LHR to DXB, due to their wonderful service.

What really amazed me was the IFE. There where something like two hundred movies available in five or six languages. Quite funny the three always-on cameras, which I really enjoyed during take off and landing phases.

I found my self astounded my the starry ceiling during night time flight, I didn't expect it at all.

All in all pretty smooth and silet flights.

I can't tell whether it's better than a 777, a 747 or an A340 (I haven't experienced it yet) but I can definetely call my self an A380 fan, not a fanatic.

was privileged to be part of a T4 tour at JFK last Friday...

took a couple of videos of Emirates A380... it landed during the afternoon hours (around 2:30pm); KE A380 around 11:30am, AF A380 landed around 3:30pm-ish...

i'll have more pics as soon as i'm done editing them... there was a certain plane (can't tell what) that we can't include in the photos...

JFK Tower Pics... they let us stay for another 15 minutes to watch the Korean A380 land, which is around 11:30am... they even made it land to 13R so we can have a clear view...

first we have the Southern Air B747 Heavy taking off at 13R with the KE A380 Super-Heavy on a Base Leg...
