With EKs #22 (A6-EDV) delayed delivery until April 20th, and EKs #23 (A6-EDW) delayed delivery until June some time due to wing issues.

Does this mean that EK are refusing any more deliveries until Airbus can deliver airframes that have the wing problem solved ?

They are also asking Airbus to pay for damages caused by wing issues in the neighborhood of 90 million USD.

How this problems (wings) arises even after almost 50 Nos of A380 built.......at least good to know that quality control of EK is so good that they dare Airbus ....!

If they "dare" Airbus, it's more because the A380 is an incredible money maker for Emirates.

Quote:
Earnings at Emirates are also being hurt by the continued grounding of Airbus SAS A380 superjumbos, of which it’s the No. 1 operator, after the discovery of wing cracks. Six of the jets, which generate $50,000 an hour 15 hours a day, are out of action for repairs, idling 830 cabin crew and 160 pilots, and the carrier is having to compensate people set on an A380 trip.
“That’s had a poleaxing affect in the last nearly three months,” Clark said, estimating the revenue loss so far at $90 million. “Those airplanes are always full, they’re always popular. We’ve had multiple cancellations. We’ve had people telling us ‘Well you sold me the A380’, so we had to throw in 5,000 or 10,000 miles or give money back. It’s a mess.”

The company is due to get five more A380s by September, and Clark said he’ll meet Airbus next week to determine whether that could change and what the solution to the wing cracks will be.

Qantas will be glad that their A380 that suffered major engine failure in 2010 will be back in the fleet next month.

Qantas completes repairs on QF32 aircraft after 18 months

Repairs have been completed on a Qantas Airways Airbus A380 that experienced an uncontained engine failure over Singapore in November 2010.

The aircraft, registration VH-OQA, will be flown back to Australia from Singapore on 21 April, the Australian flag carrier said in a statement.

Work starts on first BA superjumbo

Work to build the first of British Airways' new fleet of superjumbos has started in a boost to the airline's plans to fly more long-haul passengers.

The first of the carrier's 12 Airbus A380s, which is the largest civil aircraft ever made and is capable of seating up to 853 passengers on two decks, is expected to be delivered next year.

Work has started to build various sections of the plane across the world, including the engines which will be made by Rolls-Royce in Derbyshire and the wings by Airbus in Flintshire, North Wales.

BA's first superjumbo will help the airline fly more long-haul passengers from Heathrow, where landing slots are restricted.

The carrier has also ordered 24 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, which would make it the first airline to have both types of craft. The orders of new planes are part of a £5 billion investment plan over the next five years that includes refurbishing other craft in its fleet.

BA's chief executive Keith Williams said: "We're really excited that work has started on building the first of our 12 Airbus A380s.

"They represent a significant part of a huge investment by British Airways of £5 billion over the next five years in new aircraft, smarter cabins, elegant lounges and new technologies to make life more comfortable in the air and on the ground."

BA has already raised the height of the roof on one of its aircraft hangars at Heathrow to accommodate the superjumbo's 24 metre high tail fin.
