Unless you're living under a rock, you'd know that the Airbus A380 has been flying for a while already. No other plane in our generation garners so much attention from the regular Joe Public. Malaysians themselves would've known that - I mean, Singapore Airlines flew A380s to Kuala Lumpur for route-proving trials, while Emirates operates daily A380 services to KL. I think the "First To Fly A380" was taken out of context. I saw it as referring to the passengers being the first to fly a MH A380. The other A380 carriers, and even the 787 ones all had their own "first to fly". No biggie.

I'm not a fan of MH's new livery, but I salute them for their livery change. It's never easy to rebrand, but as a potential customer, it tells me that things are changing in MH, at least on the front line, and so far, all the Southeast Asian carriers that have abandoned their old liveries like Singapore Airlines, Thai, Garuda, Vietnam, have improved. Although Garuda's logo isn't on the tail, I'm fine with that because Garuda's service is loads better today than it ever was when Garuda's logo was on the tail.

You beat me to it! I believe Kingfisher's A380 order was a publicity stunt... Just my opinion...

Yay for Google translate.

But since there's not really something as a OneWorld livery there's also no indication on how it will look like other then the usual One World in big letters on the front of the fuselage instead of the British Airways titles that doesn't really look any different then the regular BA livery.

It will be more interesting when a Sky Team of Star Alliance member paints an A380 in the alliance livery.

Malaysia Airlines and Petron Sign Agreement for A380 Fuel Supply
Press Release

Sunday 1 July June 2012, Subang - Petron Malaysia and Malaysia Airlines signed a deal to supply and purchase fuel at a mutually favourable rate for the national carrier’s entire Airbus A380 flagship fleet for a period of 6 months.

The supply of fuel under this special arrangement will commence today, 1 July 2012. To celebrate the new relationship, Petron will provide complimentary fuel for Malaysia Airlines' inaugural A380 flight MH2 from Kuala Lumpur to London tonight. This fuelling arrangement will be serviced by Petron Malaysia’s subsidiary Esso Malaysia Berhad.

Earlier, on 5 June, Malaysia Airlines also enjoyed fuel supply from Petron when it hosted staff and guests on its A380 route proving flight-cum-joyride, which included VIP guest Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammed.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Malaysia Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer, Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said, "Malaysia Airlines is happy to have found a supportive partner that is equally committed to the eco-friendly requirements of our A380. We are proud to say that Malaysia Airlines' A380 is fuelled by Petron."

According to Petron Corporation Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Ramon Ang, "Petron is honoured to partner with Malaysia Airlines, now one of the world's few elite airlines that operate the Airbus A380. The trust given to us by one of the world's leading airlines serves to strengthen our commitment to bring world-class fuels and services to the market."

The new fuel deal will also be the launch pad for joint brand promotions by the two companies. This includes nationwide joint promotions through advertising in media, both print and digital, on billboards, at Petron's service stations and through Petron's loyalty card programme.

Malaysia Airlines’ first A380 aircraft landed safely at KL International Airport earlier today and will begin preparations for its inaugural flight this Sunday night. The airline has ordered six (6) A380 aircraft, four of which will be delivered by the end of 2012 and the balance in 2013. The Kuala Lumpur - London route will be the first destination for the A380, to be followed by Sydney towards the end of November. There are also plans to fly the A380 to Narita Tokyo and/or Beijing for the other new additions to the Malaysia Airlines fleet.

Malaysia Airlines marked the 38th anniversary of its first flight to London by flying its first Airbus A380 into Heathrow on Sunday, a year ahead of the aircraft going into operation with any UK carrier.

The A380 flew back to Kuala Lumpur on Monday with 478 passengers on the first of three services a week, ahead of the carrier switching one of its two daily Heathrow flights to the A380 from August when it brings a second superjumbo into service.

Malaysia plans to operate the A380 to Sydney, Tokyo Narita and Beijing as it takes delivery of more aircraft, giving UK passengers the chance to fly all the way on the aircraft. The A380 should be on the Sydney route “by the end of this year or early next”.

[B]Malaysia Airlines Group chief executive Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said: “This is a beautiful aircraft with a level of comfort way different to our old Boeing 747s. It will deliver new standards of service. It was imperative the aircraft was inaugurated on the London route.”
“We are bit short on first class. The decision was made three years ago and it’s too late to do a refit. We will review it in three years,” he said.

Wish them best of luck

With Bejing and Tokyo as confirmed routes I think they has called off the Amsterdam A380 route.
