I "only" counted 11 A380 at DXB this morning, 7 at the gates, 4 parked. I'm sure there were more in the Airport

Cost of doing business, no? Are other airlines exempt from this? Doesn't matter what tax is called, it's simply a way to generate revenue.

Philippine Airlines orders 54 Airbuses worth $7 bn

Quote:
Philippine Airlines announced Tuesday it had ordered 54 Airbus aircraft with a list price of $7 billion, and planned to buy dozens more planes in a spectacular move to rejuvenate Asia's oldest carrier.

The initial orders would more than double PAL's current fleet of 39 planes, and allow it to serve more long-haul international routes while meeting the challenges of intense low-cost competition at home.

In a separate statement Airbus said the "firm orders" were for 44 single-aisle A321 planes and 10 long-haul A330-300s. Delivery would start next year with the final planes of the batch ready to start flying in 2015.

Ang told reporters PAL was looking to buy 100 new planes in total, and that discussions were under way with Boeing as well as Airbus to secure the extra aircraft.

Airbus A380 Production Squeeze Lifts Value of Financier’s Fleet
Bloomberg News

The Airbus A380 wing-crack debacle may turn out to be a blessing in disguise for the largest financier of the super jumbo.

“It will, in a strange way, be positive long term because it has slowed down production,” said Mark Lapidus, managing director of Doric Asset Finance Ltd, which has financed 13 of the world’s largest passenger aircraft so far. “Anything that slows down the production rate increases the value of the existing fleet we have.”
