Dang, that's really good news for travelers between Dubai, New York, and Paris... All A380 flights between them! Makes me wonder if the new Manila Airport (to be financed by Philippine Airlines) will have gates dedicated for A380 services, as well as when it will be open... It's like, EK now operating three daily flights between Manila and Dubai, and all we get are two-class B77Ws? I hope there will be at least one or two A380 flights to Manila soon, especially that the Philippines is abolishing two punitive airline taxes.

Oh yeah, that's the real A380 bound for San Francisco... As expected. I'm surprised though that there is a flight that late for Xiamen -- around 10:30 or 11pm?

The flight to Xiamen was scheduled to depart at 20:50 but delayed all the way to 23:30.

FOD, can you provide some more information or a link regarding the abolishing of Philippine airline taxes?

Sweet! Wonder if their next destination will be LAX.

Of course, I'd love to.

I'm looking forward, though, to the day that President Aquino will finally sign the bill rationalizing airline tax collection into law. It should happen pretty shortly.

Singapore Airlines already operates an A380 to LAX from SIN via NRT.

Know about that My point is given that Skymark is LCC, it will nice to see it at LAX as yield is pretty high.

True. I just wonder if it will be configured with an all-Y or a mix of C and Y seats because with a large aircraft -- and many airlines competing -- it'd be an interesting thing to watch Skymark develop such a route.

When Skymark ordered the planes, they mentioned they intend to send it to JFK, LHR and FRA. So these three might be pretty safe (but far from 100% - look at Thai whose initial plans for A380 to LHR and SYD won't be realised). And JFK is getting even more to reality now. Other airports haven't been mentioned yet, so it's all speculation.

I wonder what the configuration for that A380 would be, especially as far as I recall, it is a Japanese LCC, smaller than JAL and ANA.

Skymark has said they will make a decision on the configuration in mid 2013.

When they originally announced the order they wanted to have a mix of P and C with 394 seats. They wanted to be a more premium carrier, with cheaper fares for business travelers then the traditional Japanese carriers. But still more expensive then the regular Y seats, with this they hoped to make the flights profitable in the 1st year of operation.

With the recent announcement that they will be a proper long haul LCC the original configuration seems to be out of the question. I don't think they will go all Y, since the business market to and from Tokyo is still big enough. They might go full exclusive service in C and all LCC in Y, if they can market that properly.

A380s operating today have been configured with at least three classes on board, and I have yet to see an A380 operating with a two-class configuration. Perhaps Skymark could demonstrate a two-class (C and Y) configuration could look like, but I think that they might need to add one more class (P) so that they can get even more revenue later.
