CaptainEKAirbus from FT has given away when EK will upgrade LAX, and SFO to A380s this year from DXB. These are the new heavier versions we knew EK was going to recieve.

This is a copy, paste of his post,

I'm seeing dates where LAX and SFO for some reason appear to be unweight restricted 77Ws... Generally LAX and SFO have seats blocked off because of being weight restrictions (those familiar with west coast ULRs will know), however 27OCT13 for LAX seems to have no seats blocked either direction of the route and 11NOV13 for SFO also appears to be the same. Perhaps these are indications of A380 upgrades?

Happy Holidays!

I wonder if the stretched body version of A380 will ever be developed?

Hmmm... I think it's better off to wait for the actual EK announcement.

Of course we will. We can always keep this for future reference to see how accurate the sources are.

Seeing the same signs of an EK upgrade November 1st onwards for the A380 to IAH also.

Looks like EK will be adding BOS on 01JUL13 and MIA on 01OCT13, obviously not A380s for starters.

I was under the impression seats are blocked off due to the 77W not having range all year round, is it possible the 77W is being replaced by a 77L...?

Possibly the new services will be served by either a 77W or 77L, depending on demand. But I think the A380 could be a bit too big for either BOS or MIA.

Yes seats are blocked to keep the weight down, and inhance range. No they won't use 77L because the demand/load factor is good, which is a clear indicator the A380 will be used.

We already knew EK A380 would serve SFO, and LAX in 2013, now we know exactly when date wise.

HOU, and DFW will also get EK A380 service, but we don't know when yet. One thing I can truly say is the United States will be flooded with EK Super Jumbo's.

I just flew on an EK Super Jumbo from Dubai to Shanghai. I was extremely impressed! I couldn't believe how quiet the plane was. If you closed your eyes you didn't even feel like you were taking off in an airplane. Its almost eerily quiet. I can imagine in First Class at the front on the second deck it is even quieter.

^ I took my first A380 flight with SQ from LHR to SIN over Christmas. Even on the lower deck, over the wing, it is incredibly quiet.

And another destination for Skymark.

Quote:
London to be second Skymark long-haul destination

http://www.ch-aviation.ch/portal/new...ul-destination

08JAN2013

Skymark Airlines (BC, Tokyo Haneda (HND)) has applied for traffic rights to operate its six A380-800s on order from Tokyo to New York John F. Kennedy International (JFK) and London Heathrow (LHR) confirming London as its second planned long-haul destination besides New York. Skymark plans to launch long-haul services in July 2014. According to Airline Route, Skymark also plans to convert one of its 27 B737-800s to a 30 seat Business Class only configuration next year for use on premium routes. Skymark currently operates as a low-cost carrier offering 25 domestic routes to 14 destinations in Japan.

So it looks like Skymark Airlines will use Tokyo's Haneda Airport instead of Narita Airport for its long-haul, A380 services. That would provoke competition from several airlines, including JL, NH, AA (for JFK), UA (for JFK), BA (for London), and VS (for London), among others.

For HND LHR, slot allocation at both ends will be interesting. For HND, only late night and early morning slots have been released for international flights so far. Good for Central Tokyo O&D traffic but for connections a night in an airport hotel is required.

FOD, did you see my PM's?

I did, and I sent you a reply.

As for the A380 flights with Skymark, I believe that a red-eye flight from Tokyo to London would be great since BA operates its flight from Tokyo to London midday, which is pretty unique (similar to Seoul and Beijing) for East Asia flights.
