MAS set to fly A380 KL-Paris on March 1
Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines is all set to operate its daily A380 Kuala Lumpur-Paris-Kuala Lumpur flight service beginning March 1 with the arrival of the fifth A380 at the KL International Airport (KLIA) today.

The French capital will be the second European destination after London in the national flag carrier’s long haul network to be operated by the superjumbo, the company said in a statement here today.

The 494-seater Airbus 380 daily services to Paris will be rolled out to replace the current 282 seat B777 operations, increasing daily seat capacity by 75 per cent effective March 1.

The national carrier said that economy class travel from Kuala Lumpur on the state-of-art A380 was now possible at all inclusive return airfares starting from only RM3,681.

Meanwhile, the all-inclusive promotional return fares for Business Class from Kuala Lumpur to Paris start from RM15,026 while return First Class fares
start from RM31,491. The A380 service has thus far received encouraging response from customers for both Kuala Lumpur-Paris and Paris-Kuala Lumpur sectors.

Malaysia Airlines said booking trends for March 2013 showed a positive hike by 87 per cent for Kuala Lumpur-Paris route and a stunning 123 per cent growth for Paris-Kuala Lumpur route as compared to bookings in March 2012.

Its membership of the oneworld alliance from Feb 1, also contributed to this positive development. Meanwhile, MASholidays, the travel and tour arm of Malaysia Airlines, is offering three exclusive yet incredibly affordable and promotional tour packages from Malaysia to Paris in conjunction with the national carrier's commencement of A380 services to the French capital.

The national carrier is also engaging a French chef, Amandine Chaignot to design the menu for its A380 Paris - Kuala Lumpur route. Malaysia Airlines’ A380 has a seat configuration of 494 comprising eight First Class and 350 Economy Class seats on the main deck and 66 Business Class and 70 Economy Class seats on the upper deck.

It is the eighth operator of this super-jumbo. Customers can book their travel on Malaysia Airlines through all distribution channels, mainly www.malaysiaairlines.com, Malaysia Airlines 24 hours toll free number 1 300 88 3000, MHmobile app, MHBuddy in Malaysia Airlines Facebook, Malaysia Airlines ticket offices and appointed agents throughout Malaysia.

Another A380 for Sydney
February 26, 2013, 12:22 pm
AAP

Emirates' early morning service between the two cities will change from the current Boeing 777-300ER to an A380 from June 2.

It will become the second daily A380 for Sydney passengers and the move will see an increase in capacity of 1890 seats per week.

"Emirates' decision to commit a second A380 to Sydney is a clear indication of customer demand for the state-of-the-art aircraft and the growing travel between Dubai and Sydney on the early morning service," Emirates' vice president Australasia Barry Brown said in a statement.

"Australia represents an important market for Emirates and ranks in the top three countries on Emirates' global network.

"A second A380 for Sydney also complements our proposed plans for the partnership with Qantas."

Meantime, Virgin Australia has announced it will commence flights between Brisbane and the coal-mining town of Moranbah in regional Queensland on April 2.

The airline will initially operate two daily return flights on weekdays, increasing to three daily return flights from April 15.

On weekends, it will operate one daily return flight every Sunday.

"Moranbah is situated in the heart of the Bowen Basin and we are pleased to be supporting both the local community and the resources industry by bringing much needed competition to this market," said Merren McArthur, group executive of Alliances, Network and Yield.

"We look forward to bringing Virgin Australia's exceptional service to the Moranbah community and will continue to look for more opportunities to expand in regional Queensland," she said.

It looks like a big surprise indeed for the airline that'll get the 100th A380… most of us thought it would be Emirates (for obvious reasons), but with Malaysia Airlines getting it? That's a pleasant surprise.

Emirates to fly one-off A380 service to Gatwick in March

Gulf carrier Emirates will perform a scheduled passenger flight of an Airbus A380 into London Gatwick on 24 March to test the Sussex airport's newly completed A380 facilities.

The airline was unable to confirm the exact timing of the service from Dubai, but says the flight is intended as a "one-off".

EADS Forecasts Higher Earnings as Airbus Delivers More Jets
Bloomberg
Feb 27, 2013 2:50 PM GMT+0800

European Aeronautic, Defence & Space Co. (EAD) predicted earnings will rise in 2013 after higher output at its Airbus SAS aircraft division and a rebound in commercial helicopter production lifted 2012 profits 68 percent.

Earnings before interest, tax and one-time items rose to 3 billion euros ($3.92 billion) last year from 1.8 billion euros in 2011, EADS said today. Sales gained 15 percent to 56.5 billion euros. EADS predicted operating profit will rise to 3.5 billion euros this year and said the bulk of charges to fix the wings on its A380 flagship aircraft have been booked.

Airbus delivered 588 planes last year and is targeting at least 600 handovers in 2013 as airlines seek more fuel efficient airliners. The aircraft subsidiary contributes two-thirds to EADS’s revenue and will remain the main driver for sales for the foreseeable future after EADS’s attempt to merge with defense company BAE Systems Plc (BA/) failed in October.

’’Those are excellent figures for 2012, and the guidance for 2013 will clearly reassure investors,’’ said Yan Derocles, at analyst at Oddo Securities in Paris.

The company said it will propose a dividend of 60 cents, up from 45 cents in 2012.

New Governance

The merger breakdown with BAE was followed in December by the largest revamp of EADS’s governance structure since its inception in 2000, clearing the way for institutional shareholders to exit, reducing government direct control in operational affairs, and increasing the number of freely traded shares.

EADS has gained 18 percent this year, valuing the company at about 28.8 billion euros. Boeing Co. (BA), which is grappling with technical glitches on its 787 Dreamliner that has led to its temporary grounding, is little changed in 2013.

“Going-forward, the focus on bottom line growth remains our priority number one as a management team,” Chief Executive Officer Tom Enders said in the statement. “And there’s still some way to go to meet our profitability targets.”

Shareholders will decide at an extraordinary meeting March 27 whether to approve a 15 percent share buyback and will also vote on a proposed slate of directors, including Denis Ranque as chairman.

Of the 820 million euros in charges booked last year, the wing-rib fixes on the A380 consumed 522 million euros, followed by 125 million euros for the A350 program, which Airbus said has used up all its time buffers and remains challenging. EADS also booked 198 million euros in charges at its Cassidian defense unit in the fourth quarter after cutting costs.

Airbus is aiming to perform the first test flight of its wide-body long-range A350 by the middle of this year, ahead of planned entry into service by the end of 2014. Yesterday, the company rolled out the first assembled A350 to begin ground tests outdoors on fuel tanks, on the fuselage and on radio equipment.
