Can't understand why the mainland-China based carriers always have the ugliest liveries...

Mainland China based carriers have one of the best liveries in my opinion, especially China Southern and Air China.

In China Southern's Livery I only like the logo. Rest of it should be revised.

I normally like the China Southern livery but on the A380 it just emphasises the ugliness of the nose. Don't get me wrong, I love the A380 and it is good to see the number of operators slowly increasing.

I've just realized that the aircraft on the bottom is not Airbus's aircraft concept. It belongs to Boeing.
I believe, back then Boeing was considering to develop rival super jumbo aircraft. But for some reason, they cancel it altogether, and choose to develop Boeing 747 Next Generation instead.

Probably because their liveries have not yet been updated for many, many years… but with due respect, though: even though Cathay Pacific is "technically" in Mainland China, it still has one of the better liveries. Xiamen Air has undergone a livery renewal, though, and I find it refreshing. I suspect if CZ would apply its livery from the 787 to the A380, what will it look like?

From an international aviation perspective, Hong Kong is a separate flag from China. Hence, Hong Kong authorities need to negotiate separate air services agreements with other countries, which are not applicable to mainland Chinese carriers.

China Southern's 787 livery is stunning though.

Indeed. Hopefully, the livery used for the 787 can also be applied to the A380 because it looks much, much better, especially for a large carrier like CZ.
