Over 50 hurt as Thai Airways A380 hits turbulence

BANGKOK — More than 50 passengers and crew were injured Friday when a Thai Airways A380 superjumbo hit severe turbulence during a flight from Bangkok to Hong Kong, the carrier said.
One stewardess suffered a broken collarbone, while the other injuries were minor such as bruises, a Thai Airways official who did not want to be named told AFP.
About 500 passengers were on board the plane at the time of the incident, which happened as it was preparing to land at Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok airport shortly after midday.
The injured -- 37 passengers and 15 crew members -- were sent to hospital for treatment, with 22 already discharged, the official said.

Another flight had also encountered severe turbulence that day as it descended for landing into Hong Kong. HX762 was arriving from Phuket. 6 people on the A320 required hospitalization upon landing.

Oh no, well I guess they have better uses with the a380s, probably more a380 are going to be ordered and used after 2016 Olympics. Then people are going to realize that there is a airplane that have 2 decks!

With Japan hosting the 2020 Olympics its a matter of time until we see a top up order from either KE or OZ

I'd say both will order more A380s in the long-run, especially that KE offers a unique feature that no other airline has: an on-board Duty Free Shop.

I wouldn't bet on LHR. Regarding current capacity, most likely candidates for OZ's A380s are definitely LAX and FRA. Maybe even SFO and/or JFK.

I'll bet on LAX & SFO as A380 destinations considering they've ordered 6 frames its a stretch adding any more destinations outside the USA.
