British Airways Spreads Its Wings In 2014

British Airways is introducing more choice and benefits for customers as it extends the number of routes operated by its new aircraft and increases frequencies for summer 2014 (from March 30).

British Airways now has three A380s and four 787s. Thanks to the arrival of the new aircraft into the fleet, the airline is able to confirm that the A380 will next begin services to Washington from September 1, 2014. The aircraft is already flying to Los Angeles and Hong Kong and will start services to Johannesburg in February 2014.

The 787s will next launch on services to Hyderabad from March 30, Chengdu from May 5, Philadelphia from June 5 and Calgary from July 5, 2014.

In other good news for Chengdu (a destination British Airways only launched services to in September 2013) the airline will increase the number of flights to the city from three to five a week (also from May 5).

From May 6, Tokyo Haneda will move from five-a-week to daily flights. The Haneda flights will also be re-timed to a more convenient 8.50am departure from Haneda (currently 6.35am).

Mexico City will also benefit from an increase from five to six services a week from April 27.

Cape Town will gain an extra three Boeing 777-200ER flights a week through South Africa’s cooler winter season (the Northern Hemisphere’s summer) taking it from a daily service to 10 flights a week and accommodating an additional 219 customers in four cabins.

Richard Tams, British Airways’ head of UK&I sales said: “Thanks to the arrival of the new aircraft – the centrepiece of our £5bn investment in improvements for our customers – we’re delivering on our promise to introduce new destinations and an even better schedule.

“We’re receiving great customer feedback on our new aircraft so we’re delighted to be able to roll them out across more of our network and hope our customers enjoy them on these important Indian, Chinese and American routes. More destinations will follow as we will receive 12 A380s and 24 787s over the next three years.

“We’re also pleased to be able to increase services to the likes of Chengdu, Haneda, Mexico City and Cape Town where there is significant demand and we know regular direct flights are important to our customers.”

These flights will all be available for sale from today. Customers wishing to book should go to ba.com, call 0844 493 0787 or speak to their travel agent.

British Airways is investing more than £5bn in new aircraft, smarter cabins, elegant lounges, and new technologies to make life more comfortable in the air and on the ground.

British Airways is the first airline in the UK to fly the A380 and the first in Europe to fly both the A380 and 787. Customers on these aircraft are able to enjoy the new cabins and seats that have proved so popular on the airline’s 777-300Ers.

Both aircraft types make major environmental advances and contribute toward the airline’s ambitious targets for noise and carbon reduction.

Wow. It's their full livery. that will be very eye catching at whatever airport they serve. I was hopping a special livery like Malaysia Airlines did. Cant wait to see her in commercial service.

Actually, I thought the article was pretty poor. Implying that that A380 didn't have HUD's and the 787 was not Fly By Wire.

tihad Airways will next year begin daily services to Rome and Jaipur and a four-weekly service to Yerevan, Armenia.

The Gulf carrier will start flying to Jaipur on April 1, to Yerevan on July 2 and to Rome on July 15.

The new routes are in addition to those announced by the airline last week, including to Perth and Dallas (see news, December 13) and a previously announced direct service to Los Angeles (see news, October 8).

James Hogan, president and CEO of Etihad Airways, said: "This is part of a measured and strategic growth plan, which will reinforce the future of the national carrier of the UAE and the vital role it plays in the emergence of Abu Dhabi as a global aviation hub.

"Together with our codeshare and equity alliance partners, we have created a virtual network of more than 375 destinations."

To support the next phase of its global network expansion, Etihad will receive 20 aircraft deliveries next year, including the arrival of its first 787-9 Dreamliners and Airbus A380s.

The carrier will also receive five B777-200LRs, one B777-300ER, three A320s, three A321s and four A330-200s in 2014.

When is their first A380 suppose to roll out of final assembly?
