If this would happen, I think Emirates should not move to T3 from T1 in MNL because A380 may not be fit for some taxiways going to T3. If EK will use T3, 77W (-300ER) is the best choice for that.

Im somewhat confused factoring in QF maintain their fleet of A380's in MNL you would presume the airport has modified taxiways to handle the type.

Because T1 and Lufthansa Technik of MNL is just beside the main runway so the taxiway is more ideal. However, T3's taxiway is narrower so A380 can't be dock there.

Anyone know why BA didn't order more a380s? As they have the biggest 747-400? Fleet in the world.

One of the reasons, but not the only reason, is that BA's business model is to focus on Business/higher yielding passengers. In this market, frequency is important in order for travellers to optimise their itinerary. LHR-JFK is the classic example of this, where BA operates up to 8 or 9 flights per day. For BA, it is the longer routes such as HKG, JNB and LAX, that are better suited to the A380 because frequency is not so much an issue. In the case of LAX, three daily 744's can be replaced by two A380's because the flights depart quite close together. Likewise, the two daily flights from JNB depart within an hour of each other.

The second consideration, and this affects all potential A380 operators, is the need to fill the aircraft 12 months of the year. In some markets, BA will downgauge the type or reduce the frequency during the winter months.

The third consideration is cargo. BA carries a considerable amount of cargo on many long haul routes and the A380 may not offer enough capacity, for example, when compared with a 77W.

So, overall, BA will start with a modest fleet when compared with the number of 744's that they operate. Having said that, it is quite likely that some or all of their options are taken up, especially if the world economy continues to recover.

What happens to that Emirates airplane? Why its engine pods are covered in grimes?

It's anti-icing fluid. As you can see on the picture it's snowing. To prevent icing on important areas, such as for example the leading edges of the wings or the engine pods. it's sprayed on the airplane shortly before take of.

25 birds delivered in 2013, we should see 32 in 2014 with 3 new customers (Qatar, Asiana and Skymark), does anyone have any information about Etihad first frame?
It's gonna be an exciting year, let's hope that we see new customers orders aswell.

EADS : Emirates Airlines Firms Up Order for 50 A380 Airbus Jets

23/12/2013

By Inti Landauro

PARIS--Emirates Airlines said Monday it firmed up an order for 50 additional super-jumbo A380s manufactured by Airbus and worth $20.2 billion at list price.

The companies had announced the order in November and Emirates Airlines has now signed an official contract that includes penalties if the order is canceled.

Aircraft manufacturers regularly make discounts on their list prices for large orders.

Airbus is the civilian aircraft-making unit of European aerospace company EADS NV (EAD.FR).
