The return flight EK501 will take off from Terminal 2 in Mumbai at 04:30hrs and return to Emirates Terminal 3 in Dubai, the airline’s home and hub for its specially designed A380 terminal, at 06.00 hours.

With the services that will commence in few hours, Mumbai International Airport will be the only one in the country to have two Jumbo A380s. This means that no other airport in India has two international double Decker A 380s catering to any airport.

"We are delighted to welcome the arrival of Emirates’ first A 380 to India in Mumbai. We are glad that passengers flying from Mumbai’s Terminal 2 to Dubai will now be able to enjoy the premium services of Emirates’ state-of-the-art Airbus A 380. This is a momentous occasion for us as Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport (CSIA) Mumbai is now the only airport in India to handle A 380 aircraft operations for more than one international airline," explained an official.

Another official added, "This is yet another milestone event to our continuous endeavor to enhance the comfort and convenience of passengers traveling through CSIA and justifies our operational capabilities to handle bigger aircraft at T2."

New terminal is the Midfield Concourse Terminal

Emirates launched its inaugural A380 flight to Kuwait last week (July 16th, 2014) marking the airline's 25th anniversary of flights to Kuwait. The route is served 5 times daily in which one of the five flights is operated by the world's largest commercial jet, the A380. This flight is now officially the world's shortest A380 flight!

Here is the official link to the Emirates video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxHY6...ature=youtu.be

Soon Emirates will start a sixth daily flight to Kuwait too.

Just a question: do you think BA will use its A380s on its flagship JFK-LHR service? And, will it also be used on other flights as well with large demand, like SFO, ORD, DXB, HND, and BOM?

I don't see how without a major reconstruction of that village bus station of a terminal that BA uses.

On which end: JFK or LHR?

JFK. It a small and dated terminal. Also used by Iberia and some others from One World.

No, the A380 is better suited to long haul routes such as LHR-HKG, LHR-LAX, LHR-NRT, LHR-JNB whilst LHR-JFK served by multiple B787 services providing frequency. This provides the business traveller more flexibility.

Frequency is king on the JFK route as others have stated, though never say never. It may be that, for better overall utilisation, a JFK rotation could be added in the future. Again, the gate/terminal constraints will need to be sorted. By the way, non OneWorld, UA shares T7, also.

One route I do see being added in the future is DXB. During the northern hemisphere winter, BA has been operating 3 747/777 flights per day. Switching to 2 A380's is much more efficient and would save them a slot pair at LHR. Expect MIA and SFO first, though.

Not necessarily, for utilization purposes, airlines do fly the A380 on shorter routes like Air France to New York, the Asian carriers to India, China and Japan.
