The bigger window in the A380 is a fake, I was really disappointed by this!
The inner window is bigger but the outer one is as small as in other planes!
It looks like a tunnel, bad for photographers!
Good Morning!

Finally, I saw this aircraft in person... made me excited to see it, and I feel pleased that it will be going to SFO often.

The Lockheed L-1011 TriStar did just that, it was originally 2-4-2 and later sold as a 2-5-2 to several airlines to increase capacity.

I believe a similar story exists with the DC-10 as well (recall Biman Bangladesh?), where the Y configuration was originally 2-4-2, but BG ordered it as a 2-5-2.

Anyways, back to the A380: a 2-class version can be done, such that EK will try it. I suspect that the full upper deck will be all-J class, while the main deck will all be Y class... Imagine carrying 600+ passengers per direction to and from Dubai, especially if it is sent to destinations usually served by 2-class B77Ws. That aircraft may not always be packed...

The 2-class A380 will be a nightmare for loading team leaders.. lol a fully booked 2-class A380 from Dubai to Mumbai may load upto 40 AKE of baggage...

A 11 abreast A380 seat is still wider than 10 or 9 abreast 777 and 787. The A380 main deck is that wide.

MH ordered their 777 in 2-5-2 configuration as well, but with 34" pitch so it's actually not that uncomfortable if you score an aisle or window seat!

Malaysian Airlines is offering their 6 A380s for sale or lease.

http://leehamnews.com/2015/04/30/mal...ng/#more-15581

2 can be taken immediately, 4 from next year.

It's going to be interesting to see if they can find takers for these A380s. Turkish Airlines keeps on popping up as a possible taker, previously they were already rumored to lease some A380s from Malaysia or Qantas. But those rumors never materialized of course as they still don't have the A380 in their fleet. We have to wait and see what will happen with these 6 birds.

ps. they are also getting rid of their remaining 777s, 2 747-400F and 4 A330Fs.

Think Thai will sell their A380 soon as well.

Quote:
...
In fact, with hindsight Thai probably wishes it had cancelled its order for six A380s some years ago. (Its superjumbos were ordered from Airbus many years ago, before the Gulf carriers became a competitive threat).

In an interview in the Bangkok Post in 2009, the then Thai chairman Wallop Bhukkanasut said that the A380 "is not economically viable to have and deploy on our network. It is a special mission airplane".

I don't think that will happen soon. I agree that the a380 is not a good fit for Thai and that Thai is a bit struggling with them. But there are many other planes (the a340-600s and 747-400s) that need to be removed from the fleet before the a380.

I think that in the worst case Thai will remove the a380 from their european routes and redeploy them on their north asian route where Thai is doing better. I'm actually surprised that Thai took the a380s being used on the Bangkok-Osaka route to be used on their Bangkok-London route as from what I heard, Thai is doing pretty good on their japanese routes.

You cannot actually compare TG to MH, TG has much much larger medium/long-haul operations than MH (Australia I think is the only medium/long-haul market where MH beats TG). My point is that for TG, if the a380 doesn't work out on one route, TG might still find another route more suitable for it, which might not be the case for MH.

Given the growth of Turkish Airlines, I wouldn't be surprised they take the ex-Malaysian Airlines A380's. They can be deployed on routes from Istanbul from the USA and eastern Asia.
