Half the number of engine does not mean twice the thrust per engine!
Due to one engine out TakeOff performance, it is in fact thrice!
Indeed in case of engine out after V1, a quad has to be able to take off on 3 engines while a twin has to be able to take off on a single engine!
I don't see a 200klbf+ engine coming in the short/medium term...

In this thread ... if you say something along the lines of " the a380 needs to lose some weight" ..... you get scolded and they think you are against airbus.

Go check in this thread .... I have said that the A380 needs to lighten up and needs upgrades. But people said I was wrong and what not.

Airbus recently talked about the NEO 380 is kind of a joke now. They are going to stretch the plane but no "New engine options." So what is the point of the NEO without new engines? Stretching the plane is pointless

I have a gut feeling that the next serious customer to take the A380 will come out of Iran, especially when the embargo is lifted soon. We might even have two airlines in Iran taking the SJ. An Iranian airline could also take the air frames SkyMark never took possession of.

That would be an interesting development.

But, I would think that Airbus will be conservative at first. They won't accept A380 orders from Iran if they are not 100% certain that they will be delivered. This means that it won't happen in the next couple of years. First the treaty will have to survive the 2016 presidential election USA, the conservatives have already said they would block it the moment they will get the presidency. But even if the democrats win the election Iran will also have keep to the deal.

I would give it 4 to 5 years before they will place any large deals, except for maybe the A320 or 737, those orders wouldn't be so bad if they are cancelled. Airbus and Boeing will of course more then happy to provide assistance and spare parts if any Iranian airline decide to buy planes on the 2nd hand market. It's more likely they would buy A330s & A340s that way before they place any new direct orders for large planes from Airbus.

But Iran is a large market, which could mean A380 orders in the future.

SkyMarks frames are ready immediately for delivery so the financing is not a problem. Only issuei s refitting the interior.

Seriously? Even Brisbane and Dusseldorf can have A380.

Yea it's true. Ataturk can't take a A380. The 3rd Istanbul Airport will support facilities for A380s

Will it be men on the upper deck, and women on the lower deck?

It's much more complicated then that. Otherwise Airbus would have sold much more A380s to many more airlines.

It's not an easy plane to introduce into the fleet. It's big, it's expensive, there's not a large supply of cheap spare parts, etc, etc, etc,

There are other options for Iran which are cheaper, quicker to obtain, easier to maintain if the embargo's happen to put back into place (which is still a realistic scenario). Expect more A340s to join the fleets, maybe some 747-400s, that will give them all the capacity that they will need over the next decade.

Expect even more A320 and 737 sized planes, that size category is currently severely underrepresented in Iran, compared to the rest of the world. Russia is also already offering the SSJ. Smaller jets will be the 1st main priority for growing Iran's aviation sector.

I don't think so. Starting with airport infrastructure, looking from a satellite image Imam Khomeini has a rather small terminal and Mehrabad is even worse. Runways seem large enough and so do taxiways...

Also, lots of options available on the market before going on to the mighty A380. 767's are easily available to replace oldies and even 747-400's are being phased out by many airlines.

British Airways to fly Airbus A380 for Vancouver service

BY KENNETH CHAN
9:00 AM PDT, WED JULY 29, 2015

Quote:
The biggest bird in the skies will be flying to and from Vancouver International Airport everyday beginning next spring.

British Airways will use an Airbus A380 superjumbo jet for its popular London to Vancouver service, according to a report by Airline Route.

Currently, the airline regularly flies to Vancouver using a Boeing 747-400 aircraft, but this will be switched to the A380 beginning on May 1, 2016. This will be YVR’s first scheduled A380 service.

The superjumbo jet will depart London Heathrow daily at 5:15 p.m. and arrive at YVR at 6:40 p.m. For return flights, the jet will leave YVR at 8:50 p.m. and arrive at Heathrow at 2:00 p.m. the next day.

However, the change to using the industry’s most prized commercial aircraft will come with some cutbacks in scheduled service. British Airways will axe its seasonal service of five flights a week on the Boeing 777-200ER, given that the capacity for the extra London-Vancouver service will be transplanted onto the larger A380.
