Enough with the bickering , i'm sorry I haven't been activity policing this section... I will try to enforce the photo rules... I just need separate threads for each type of plane created in the Photo section so I can have a place to put the posts... I'm sure you Hardcore Plane buffs can do that... Make the starter post nice and full of information... Hopefully that will allow me to clean up and regulate the section more efficiently... I hope it also makes for a stronger & larger aviation section... A section that could one day rival other Aviation forums....

Last month the order for 2 A380s by Air Austral was transferred to an undisclosed customer by Airbus. Air Austral's was cancelled and a new order by an undisclosed customers was booked as a new order.

http://www.airbus.com/company/market/orders-deliveries/

This is different then the Hong Kong Airlines order for 10 A380s and the more recently the Transaero orders. Both where also transferred to an undisclosed customer order, but without a booked cancellation + new order.

What is new is that this order is specifically for the 2 not taken up frames that were built for Skymark.

This means that ANA will get new builds, just like Iran Air (if they actually firm up the A380 part of the larger order).

EK probably got the two airframes for free because they decided to buy the XWB in the end.

Is that based on anything or just a hunch?

Or they got them for free as a compensation by Airbus for not going ahead with the A380neo.

Just a hunch, here's my take behind the scenes, Airbus " Tim if you go/buy 50 plus A350's we'll throw in two extra Super Jumbos we can't sell that are sitting on the lot".

I don't think Tim will decide on A350s until B787-10 'Hot' n 'Low' performance is known like he said before. The A350 is an insurance play for him on so many levels.

If Emirates need A380s it is for organic reasons, they are flying a scad of daily A380 sectors out of the 2 London airports now and a 777 seems inadequate for the demand most of the time.

What is clear with this two new orders is that Emirates is not oversaturated in the short term with the huge amount of planes they are receiving. Demand is beating their expectations. What we do not know is to what extent where they short in their plans, and therefore how many more, if any, they can buy in the short term of the orders other companies are cancelling.

Did you notice the two A380 sales are not even mentioned on their websites news section. Even more reason my hunch might be right.

You could also reason that an order for just 2 A380s is Emirates unworthy, making it a quiet sale which will simply be revealed without any announcements on a later date.

It's also possible that Airbus didn't want to create negative publicity from the Air Austral cancellation. Even though both the cancellation and the new order are for 2 A380s they have nothing to do with each other. The Air Austral order was a dormant order without any fixed production slots. The Emirates order is for the 2 NTU Skymark frames. Already booking this new order before Emirates want's to make it publicly known, just like Boeing does all the time both with or without any later 'large announcements'.

Edit:

Never mind, Emirates already announced the deal:
http://www.emirates.com/media-centre...a380-aircraft#

That does mean there's probably no link to any other future orders.
