The A380 thread is even this forums most popular site, just look at the amount of views compared to the others which would lead one to believe it has alot of fans.

Numbers don't lie.

Who isn't an A380 fanboy? Its just the bets plane around.

Just had the pleasure to sit 8 hours in A330 economy.

Rather sit 16 hours in A380.

Who is not a fanboy you ask? Here I am! A380 looks like a big-fat flying whale to me just...it hasn't got any beauty, sure the inside might be more spacious and all and the aircraft gets its work done but I chose the 777 over it anyday!

News worthy pictures are always welcome here. Random pictures should go into the thread in the Aircraft Photos and Video section. That's why that section was created, not many people complained beforehand about this move in the thread discussing the new changes.

If this thread has become popular because of the pictures I'm sure that the new picture thread will also become popular.

I was in one of these babies earlier this month and I fell completely in love. I don't think that aesthetically they're pretty airplanes but on the inside they're simply spectacular.

I either move the photo posts over to the picture threads or I delete them , usually if I can't find a thread to place them in...

Just delete them, I say. There's no point in going through all the effort for lazy people who can't even take 30 seconds to click on the correct thread.

The pictures are mostly unimpressive, just repetitive plane spotting spam, anyway.

Much like your repetitive posts complaining. Can we delete the posts of complaining also?

Spam king complaining about spam. I just don't know what to believe anymore.

We all need to manage our expectations: the A380 gets a news worthy development maybe once every 6 months. If we come to expect news every time somebody post something in this thread we are bound to be disappointed.

Then let the thread disappear until there is something newsworthy to post/read. In the meantime, the picture thread can be filled with random pictures.

Hi
How many years on service for those airplanes? ?? I believe the investment isn't good or do you think they have a good profit for those airplanes.

Cheers

Their 6 A380s were delivered in 2012~2013. Back then they operated about 20 747-400s, ordering 6 A380s should not really have been a big stretch for them. But in the end their A380s still turned out too big for them. For which of course the 2 777 crashes are also one of the big reasons, but is not all. The Airline has made a financial loss every year since 2011. That makes it difficult to make a statement about the profitability of specifically their A380s. But the fact that they didn't have the routes to use them as intensively as they should have to make them profitable does give a hint. And that they already try to sell 2 since last year, which didn't happen.

The A380 wasn't a success story for them. And it will become very difficult for them to sell them to new customers.

Airbus Could Shrink A380’s Grand Stairway to Add Space for Seats.

Re-arranging fixtures and fittings within the A380 could accommodate 60 more customers without reducing the width or pitch of its seats, according to Kiran Rao, Airbus’s director of strategy and marketing.

Emirates gives up on upgraded Airbus A380

Quote:
Emirates, the largest operator of Airbus’s A380 superjumbo, has all but given up on getting an upgrade of the double-decker with new engines and is instead making a more modest pitch to the planemaker: please don’t drop the programme altogether.

“I can’t force Toulouse to do anything," Emirates president Tim Clark told reporters at a briefing in Dublin, referring to Airbus’s home base in southern France. “My main concern is that they stop producing the plane."

Mr Clark has become a marketing champion for the world’s largest passenger plane, deploying the jetliner on both major trunk routes like Heathrow-Dubai as well as secondary airports like Manchester or Barcelona. While new engines would further enhance the model by providing greater flexibility with more range and higher takeoff weight, Mr Clark conceded that talks with the manufacturer regarding an upgrade had “kind of lapsed." Emirates is by far the largest customer for the aircraft, having ordered 142 in total.

I see nobody spotted the weeks big news from Dublin.

Tim Clark basically admitted there will be no A380 neo

http://atwonline.com/iata-agm-2016/c...e-enough-a380s

Quote:
“If Airbus does not build the A380neo, but will put new, bigger winglets on existing A380s we have on the order book, that would be great,”
However even that much is moot. Production drops to 1.7 aircraft a month in H2 2017 and most of those are Emirates ( along with 2 totally dodgy orders from Amadeo and Virgin)

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articl...142-superjumbo

Quote:
“I can’t force Toulouse to do anything,” Emirates President Tim Clark told reporters on Friday at a briefing in Dublin, referring to Airbus’s home base in southern France. “My main concern is that they stop producing the plane.”
so maybe not even new winglets.

Quote:
Airbus, after rushing 18 months ago to assure the airline community that it would look seriously at an A380Neo, has made increasingly clear that any such project is something for the long term. The emphasis for now is finding ways to improve the plane and carve out more space with simpler moves to better organize space on the plane.
So that might be No Neo, No new winglets and a new set of staircases ....is all.

Emirates first retirements are due when some early frames come off lease in 2020 and at 1.7 units a month ( 20 a year ) from 2017 Emirates might just keep the programme alive, pretty much on their own, until 2020.

I'm not to worried this program will end, EK will most likely make an add on order, and keep the air frame afloat until the NEO.

I'm more concerned about the world economy crashing because it's been around seven/eight years since the last US recession. It's starting to show early signs of stalling. China is still a big question mark, and European banks are going to get hit hard very soon.

I think Tim has a lot of other things on his mind like what will the out come be regarding subsidy claims in the US, and Europe. Even a Brexit yes vote would be bad, security issues, etc, etc.

Any way let's see what happens, only time will tell.
