It probably would make sense on a Japan-Honolulu route. Especially because you'd be able to sell a large amount of business class seats on that long-haul route.

You could do a 120/60/300 (J/W/Y) configuration on that route with that plane.

Heck, with an A380 you could open up really interesting seasonal routes from Honolulu: Beijing (4300nm), Moscow (6100nm), Frankfurt (6400nm), Dubai (7400nm) are all within the A380s range.

The Airbus A380: An Engineering Marvel Lacking Efficiency

Dhierin Bechai
Oct. 31, 2016 8:46 AM ET

Quote:
Summary:

-The Airbus A380 offers unprecedented standards for passenger comfort.

-Business case for the Airbus A380 has not developed and A380 is now being marketed as product enjoying traveler's preference.

-An Airbus A380 close to optimum point performs similar to the Boeing 747-400.

The Airbus A380 and Boeing 747 have often been the subject of my articles. For both aircraft, it is safe to say that they operate in a niche market. I have often received a fair amount of criticism writing about aircraft products and their performance. With the super jumbo programs that Airbus and Boeing have brought to the table this is not any different. I view the Airbus A380 as rather inflexible fleet members, with very little appeal compared to twin engine alternatives, regardless of jet fuel prices.

I could only see Iberia buying a few to replace A340s which they use for "hot and high" destinations such as Bogota, Quito and Mexico City where they need 4 engined aircrafts to deal with the loads those routes have.

Emirates is going to have a big company meeting on the 24th of November 2017. From what I'm hearing things are not so good, and Mr. Mueller could be making some huge cut backs. Let's hope the A380's won't get the ax. I think we should start getting the details by Sunday.

Airbus Poised to Cut 1,000 Jobs in Drive to Streamline Business

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...mline-business

Some 582 jobs are already going at its helicopter unit as the lower price of crude hurts demand from the oil industry, while reduced output of the slow-selling A380 superjumbo could also cost more posts.

The future of the A380

Three years ago Emirates rescued the A380 aeroplane. Its own problems now cast doubt on the super-jumbo’s future

The only 'new' airline that is still to get their 1st A380 is ANA.

Virgin Atlantic is still on the order books to get theirs in 2018, but its looking less likely they'll actually take delivery.
