Airbus A380 grounded due to bad weather
November 29, 2006 - 2:51 pm
By: Lyle Fisher/News1130 Staff

RICHMOND (NEWS1130) - The world's largest passenger plane was scheduled to depart from Vancouver International at 4:30 this afternoon. But that take-off has been cancelled due to the bad weather.

It was a different story earlier today when the plane touched down at YVR just after 7:30 this morning. Hundreds turned out in their toques, gloves, and scarves to watch this big blue and white bird touch down. The large crowd gave today's event an almost concert-like atmosphere.

Designed in close collaboration with major airlines, airports and airworthiness authorities, the 550-seat plane is the most advanced, spacious and efficient airliner ever conceived. Many who came out were amazed at just how quiet the plane is and the amount of technology and research that went into it.

Launched in December 2000, the A380 will enter passenger service next year. The double-decker airliner can also be equipped with its own restaurant, six kitchens, a bar and even a duty-free store.

We looked at mountains until dawn, and then when dawn came, it was too pretty for me - there was pink and blue and gold, in the sky, and on icy places, brilliant pink and gold flashes, and the snow was colored too, and I said," Oh," and sighed; and each moment was more beautiful than the one before; and I said, " I love you, Momma." Then I fell asleep in her arms.
That was happiness then.

Not at the moment....you never know how the market will change, but AC is going with a uniform fleet of 777 and 787, which have many commonality points. AC showed their lack of interest and need for an ultra-high capacity airliner with the retirement of the 747.

Airbus A380 takes off from YVR after weather delay
November 29, 2006 - 4:52 pm
By: Megan Cameron/News1130 Staff

RICHMOND (NEWS1130) - The weather may be difficult for drivers, but it wasn't enough to keep the world's largest passenger plane grounded for long. Earlier this morning, hundreds gathered to watch the Airbus A380 touch down at YVR just after 7:30 and despite weather concerns, the huge aircraft managed to take off at 4:30 this afternoon, as had been planned.

Mary-Ann Gretchen with Airbus says the superjumbo A380 has been a huge attraction in all the cities it has landed in. She says the call the plane their "rockstar" because, "wherever it goes it attracts thousands and thousands of people. That has happened since its very first flight." She points out tens of thousands had camped out outside the company's Toulouse, France headquarters for the A380's maiden flight.

Airbus A380 superjumbo to make first visit to Bangkok

Airbus A380 superjumbo to make first visit to Bangkok

By Manager Online 30 November 2006 18:09

November 30, 2006
BANGKOK (AFP) - Airbus announced Thursday that its A380, the world's largest aircraft, will make its first visit to Thailand even as the country's flag carrier is reconsidering its order of the jets.

The French-made superjumbo is due to touch down at Bangkok's new Suvarabhumi airport on December 5, said Kanuwong Phubordin, a spokesman for Airbus' public relations firm in Bangkok.

The surprise visit comes after an around-the-world safety trial which included stops over the past two weeks in Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Seoul and Sydney.

"Airbus considers it is important to present the A380 to all of its major clients in the Asia-Pacific region before the end of the year," Anthony Phillips, a Singapore-based Airbus spokesman, said in a statement.

He said Airbus was also keen to look into the capabilities and facilities at Bangkok's new international airport, which opened on September 28.

The A380 will stay at Suvarabhumi until December 7 on a visit that aims to boost the image of superjumbo the after delays in production and delivery.

Thai Airways International is considering whether to cancel an order of six A380s, the shipment of which has been postponed by two years.

Of the six ordered, the first three are scheduled for delivery in 2011, delayed from 2009. No delivery date has been set for the remaining three aircraft.

The Bangkok Post newspaper on Thursday quoted Thai Airways' executives as saying they would make their final decision on the A380 orders by February next year.

Thai Airways had planned to use the superjumbos on some of its most popular routes, flying from Bangkok to Frankfurt, London and Tokyo.
