Emirates and Lufthansa? That's news to me. Emirates makes sense, but I wonder why Lufthansa should fly an A380 to Zürich.

Anyway tomorrow I will board the A380 from Singapore to Melbourne.

News by swissinfo.org, don't know if it's true.

Maybe Lufthansa let her Daughter fly one of his 15 in the future.

If an A380 would be destined for Swiss then it would have been mentioned. The 15 A380's (together with 20 Boeing 747-8) will replace the Boeing 747-400s (30 frames) and exclusively fly from FRA.

World's first custom-built hangar for A380 officially opens in S'pore

3 Feb 2010

SINGAPORE: The world's first custom-built hangar for the Airbus A380 has officially opened in Singapore.

It is a milestone for SIA Engineering, which invested S$50 million to build the facility at Changi.

The company was also the first maintenance, repair and overhaul provider in the world to service the A380 superjumbo.

The new hangar, measuring 100 metres by 100 metres, will be wider than the other five facilities that SIA Engineering already has at Changi.

The company said the new hangar will improve productivity because processes such as docking of the relatively larger A380 plane can now be automated.

The hangar can also be automatically adjusted to dock the Boeing 777 jet - a feature which is the first in the world.

Stephen Lee, chairman of SIA Engineering Company, said: "The revolutionary docking will improve productivity. Moving seats from the aircraft to the workshop once took us 6 hours, now we do it in 2 hours.

"An in-house developed dock control and material management system monitors the complete status of an aircraft check. These advanced work processes will yield double-digit improvements in productivity and lead to faster turnaround of checks. All in all, operating efficiencies of our customers will improve."

Frankfurt airport has such a A380 service hangar since 2008. But they also use it for B747.

Lufthansa will get its first A380 within a few weeks. Scheduled flights will start in May from Frankfurt. Most probable destination will be either North America (New York ?) or Asia (Tokyo ?).

The name of the first Lufthansa A380 will be "Frankfurt", the second plane will be called "Munich".

Make that a few months, not weeks. First delivery is scheduled for around May 10th.

Yet another crappy Eurowhite livery. WTF is wrong with Europe anyway? Is there any particular reason why European carriers like an all-white plane?
