Great choice: no concurence between Lufthansa and Air France A380s before october...nd LHR will be the first A380 company on the Europe-Japan Siberian Route.
- Paris-New York
- Frankfurt-Tokyo
But in october, A380s will fly daily between Paris / Frankfurt to New York, Tokyo and Jo'Burg...

Malaysian Airlines First A380 Delivery Delayed Again

By Soraya Permatasari and Barry Porter

April 30 (Bloomberg) -- Malaysian Airline System Bhd. said the arrival of its first Airbus SAS A380 had been delayed again as the planemaker struggles to ramp up production of the world’s largest passenger plane.

Deliveries will now begin in the first half of 2012, Malaysian Air Chief Executive Officer Tengku Azmil Zahruddin said in an e-mail to Bloomberg. The first of the carrier’s six on-order A380s was due in 2007, before being delayed to January 2011 and then to the third quarter of 2011.

Korean Air Lines Co. also said earlier this month that its A380s were being delayed, as Airbus wrestles with an aircraft that CEO Tom Enders has said will likely be a “financial liability” for years. The late arrivals may force Malaysian Air to delay replacing older and less fuel-efficient planes on flights to cities such as London and Sydney.

The delay is “slightly negative,” for Malaysian Air, said Hafriz Hezry, an AmResearch analyst, who has a “buy” rating on the stock and a fair value estimate of 3.50 ringgit. “What is positive is that there should be compensation.”

The Southeast Asian carrier said in December that it had been awarded 330 million ringgit ($103 million) in compensation from Airbus for delays.

A380 Delays

Airbus, the world’s biggest maker of commercial aircraft, began deliveries of the A380 in 2007 after running about two years late because of difficulty with cabin wiring. The company has spent at least 18 billion euros ($23.8 billion) developing the plane, or 50 percent more than originally projected, and has struggled in meeting demands for features such as showers, enclosed suites and custom lighting.

“We can confirm that we have informed Malaysian Airline that there will be a delay in delivery of its first A380 by a few months,” Airbus spokesman Sean Lee said by phone from Singapore. A new delivery schedule is being finalized, he said.

Neither Lee nor Malaysian Air commented on compensation for the new delay.

The carrier rose 1.9 percent to 2.17 ringgit at the close of trading in Kuala Lumpur. It has dropped 2 percent this year.

Malaysian Air has no plans to add more A380s, Tengku Azmil said. The carrier has ordered 55 Boeing Co. 737-800s and as many as 25 Airbus A330-300s, he said.

“The A380s will complement these aircraft to support our future network plans,” he said.

Looks like those little A321's are ready to be delivered to Vietnam Airlines, expecting 16 this year!

One day Vietnam Airlines will get their hands on those A380's! They will be the most beautiful A380's flying around! First they need to finalise their orders

Not really a surprise. The last months Tokyo was the biggest guess for the first LH-A380 route and JFK wasn't seen any more as a likely candidate to be served this year.
In my eyes Lufthansa shouldn't send A380s to JFK at all, but rather reinstate LH 406/407, their third daily FRA-JFK flight. Frankfurt - New York is a premium market where frequency is king and customers don't care that much about the size of the plane. LH could offer A380 service to JFK by codesharing with Singapore Airlines on SQ 25/26 SIN-FRA-JFK which will most probably be upgauged from B744 to A388 in 2011.

I know the first LH longhaul flight is the private charter for the world cup FRA-JNB...but there is no mention of the return flight, will it return empty to Germany, or will a JNB-FRA (or wherever it's going) flight be up for sale to public?
