Emirates to resume superjumbo to New York end-Oct

DUBAI, May 19 (Reuters) - Dubai government-owned Emirates airline said it would restart superjumbo flights to New York at the end of October, after an increase in traffic through the Americas boosted revenues.

Emirates, the largest customer for the Airbus A380 aircraft, said on Wednesday revenue for the Americas in its financial year 2009/10 rose 8.1 percent year-on-year.

The carrier had pulled the world's largest passenger plane off the New York route in June last year after a drop in traffic, replacing it with a Boeing 777 aircraft as the impact of the global financial crisis swept across the Gulf Arab region, reducing passenger demand.

The airline posted a fivefold increase in profit to 3.5 billion dirhams ($953.2 million) in the year to March 31 and said it was aiming for close to 4.25 billion for the group this year.

The carrier, which has $55 billion in orders with Airbus and Boeing, said it would take delivery of seven A380s and one Boeing 777 in 2010-2011 and was lining up new purchases.

"Against some of the toughest operating conditions ever faced, the results for the Americas have been hugely encouraging," said President Tim Clark in a statement. "As we look to 2010-11 and beyond, Emirates will continue to invest in its products and services to build on the resurgent demand for air travel within the Americas."

The airline will look at adding flights to new U.S. cities, he added.

Emirates is scheduled to receive 11 new wide-body aircraft in 2010, including Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s, it said.

Emirates operates eight A380 aircraft to London Heathrow, Toronto, Paris, Jeddah, Bangkok, Seoul, Sydney and Auckland, and aims to start servicing Beijing and Manchester this year. ($1=3.672 Uae Dirham)

I suppose you already knew it but Air France has decided to operate one daily flight between Paris and London with one of their brand new A380.

The price for a return ticket is 80 euros.
In my opinion, it's a great opportunity not to be missed.

Yes, that's right, but it's worth it isn't it?

Lufthansa's New Airbus A380's First Class Bathrooms Are Bigger Than Mine

Taking off soon are Lufthansa's new Airbus A380 planes, which have been lavishly decorated—in the first-class cabin, at least. Gone are the tiddly toilets and basins, and in their place are separate washing and changing rooms.

It all reeks of first-class cash, and interestingly Lufthansa chose to keep the open plan design for the seating area instead of opting for separate cabins, due to customer feedback. Now, I've not flown in first class before, but the idea of separate cabins does appeal.

Instead, there's "sound-absorbing curtains" and "sound-absorbing carpeting" which blocks the hub-bub and noise of the economy-class from leaking into the first-class.

Open concepts for First and its Business mean that they also can be fitted into the B748i. You can't fit Suites/First and Business Classes of other A380 carriers like AF, EK, SQ and QF economically into the B748i.

LH's new First looks like Swiss'.
