Sacked Junior Minister to appear on Late Late Show tonight
It appears the fallout from Brian Cowen's junior ministerial reshuffle is only just beginning.
Word has reached Politics.ie this afternoon that sacked junior Minister for Trade and Commerce, John McGuinness is due on tonight's Late Late Show and is expected to be strongly critical of the Taoiseach and Tánaiste's leadership of the country at a time of crisis, claiming that they are putting the tribal needs of Fianna Fáil ahead of the good of the country.
He is also expected to say that Mary Coughlan demanded that he be fired, having said to have told Cowen "either he goes or I go".
McGuinness's relationship with Mary Coughlan is said to have been rocky to say the least. He has described how initiatives he attempted to spearhead in relation to helping small business while in the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment were shot down and stymied by the senior Minister without the least consideration. Purely, on the basis that she didn't "get" them, had not initiated them and would show up the degree to which she is dangerously out of her depth at the helm of one of the most important Departments of Government.
McGuinness could well become a lightening rod for dissent in Fianna Fáil as described by the Sunday Indo's John Drennan on today's Pat Kenny as a "very clever and articulate champion" for a "dissident rump".
