There are five levels in the South Stand although level 5 seems higher than the other four. Judging by renders and where they show the top of the main seating area for the stand, you can more than double the current height to get a sense of the top of the roof.

Our Stadium has updated its website ...

www.ourstadium.co.nz

It contains the following useful info on roof height...

Quote:
ROOF

The Forsyth Barr Stadium will have the first ever permanent roof over a natural playing surface, using ETFE (ethylene tetrafluoroethylene) – a transparent roofing material that allows grass to grow underneath. The ETFE roof is designed to maximise sunlight, angled towards the north to optimise sun in the Southern Hemisphere winter.

•Area of fixed roof: 27,200m2
•Area of ETFE roof: 20,558m2
•Main Truss Length (South Stand) 130m
•Five roof arches each with a 105m span
•Maximum external height of the main roof is 47 metres, equivalent to a 12 storey building.

INTERNAL ROOF HEIGHT

Forsyth Barr Stadium will be New Zealand’s largest indoor arena. The internal height of roof has been carefully designed to allow room for rugby balls to be kicked.

The highest up-and-under rugby kick observed in international and Super 14 games at sea level was 29.4 metres, well within the roof height on the centre line of the pitch at 37 metres. By way of comparison, the usual height of rugby goalposts is around 16 metres.

PITCH

The rectangular pitch is 132 metres long and 81 metres wide with a natural turf area of 126 by 75 metres and an artificial turf perimeter of 3 metres.

The Forsyth Barr Stadium playing area meets the pitch requirements for major sporting codes:

* Rugby Union 120x70m (max)
* Football (Soccer) 105x68m
* Rugby League 112-122x86m

Since when was 81 bigger than 86?

It's a typo on the Our Stadium website: the width should be 68m.

Judging from a photo taken by Paul LeComte at the December open day, the seating will be blue and white...

This has got to be one of the most impresssive construction projects in NZ at the moment, it proves we can do a good stadium if the right people are in charge.

Yes, it's looking pretty good for RWC 2011 with the current rate of progress.

new stadium

Living in Dunedin there is no doubt the majority of people are against this waste of rate payers money
spending 70 million just for the roof over a 19000 seat stadium is the biggest waste of money and we are sick of it
Carisbrook has held well over 40000 and hosted cricket
You only need to read the local paper to get an understanding of the way people feel and why they feel this way
This stadium keep being reduced while the cost continues to rise
