Most japanese high speed trains are very ugly.
But, ok, it's a matter of taste.

These "duck nose" is more of a technical answer than an aesthetic design. It's a matter of avoiding tunnel-boom while allowing as large capacity as possible.

500 Series is undoubtedly beautiful, but it's hated by JR Central as it has fewer seats on head/tail cars. They regard capacity much more importantly than design, as they serve the very busy corridor.

The 500 series Shinkansen train is by far the most beautiful train ever built. I can't stop looking at it.

Yes. But the original (JR Kyushu 885 series) isn't the high speed train.

Another one:The TEMU1000 Taroko express in Taiwan

JR Kyushu 885 & TRA TEMU1000
Both specs are very similar
Maximum speed:130km/h
Gauge:1067mm(narrow)
Power: 20000VAC-60Hz(885) 25000VAC-60Hz(TEMU1000)
And the tilting system installed
Almost trains in Japan use narrow gauge except for the bullet train and some private railways.

Private railways have different gauges which is not necessarily standard gauge.
