The Olympiastadion's roof also covers the neighbouring Olympiahalle and Olympiaschwimmhalle.

The Schwimmhalle is still used as a swimming pool, The Olympiahalle is used as an event arena (concerts, etc.). Should Munich win the 2018 bid for the Olympic winter games, all the venues would be used again for Olympic competitions! (Swimming pool: Curling, Olympiahalle: figure skating, short track, Olympiastadion: Opening and Closing ceremonies)

Me neither. I think the roof looks like a dishrag.

What I meant was a rag for drying dishes & wiping off tables. What you posted looks like some kind of hand-protector for pulling things out of the oven without getting burnt.

For me a dish rag is the funny thing
I think, you meant a kitchen towel?!

Whatever, the intention of the tent roof's architects is to remind to the alps and not to a dish rag.

Yesterday: Red Bull Crashed Ice Challenge (sort of a ice skate-cross race...): 50,000 visitors in the Olympiapark.

Should Munich win the 2018 Winter Olympics, can the Olympiastadion recieve any modifications to its seating bowl? I mean, it has one tier and there are no boxes.

It probably doesn't need to be "modernized" as you have Allianz Arena for major football and such events. However, one could look at the renovation proposal of the Olympiastadion as a possible answer.

Expect all seating to be replaced, add some "skyboxes", perhaps a new track, and roofing to cover the open end (which IMO should be more like a matching of the existing roofing)

I shouldn't expect any seating bowl modifications, they're not needed.

As I understand it, the stadium structure is heritage listed due to it's iconic architecture, so no major external cosmetic changes can be made, such as skyboxes and new roofing.

You're right but I remember seeing plans to develop the side with no roof (could've been for the World Cup bid) that was rejected in place of the Alianz Arena.

Would anyone have a picture of this plan? I've looked for it and can't seem to find it

It is one of my favourite stadiums in the current shape!
I've a dream - to get a ticket for the opening ceremony of the 2018 WOG's in this stadium

i rekon this stadium is one of the most unique in the world. on a par with the birds nest, but given how long ago this one was constructed, id say that makes it the winner hands down!
