The "Munich Massacre", which started in an appartement in Connollystr. 31 in the Olympic Village, just 600 metres distance from the stadium, will be conncted with the stadium's history for all times.

Are there any plans to modernize this stadium? Maybe construct an acrylic covering for the east stands?

No. It was renovated not too long ago for the athletics European championships (in the early 2000ies) when it became an all-seater. With the two football clubs moving out of the stadium, there is far less pressure for renovations (or, in that case probably destructions). Maybe some day smaller renovations (toilets, etc.) will be done, but there are no plans for larger works.

Back in the days when the Air & Style big air snowboard contest took place in the stadium:

Unfortunately there aren't too many pics around. The event itself is now hold on the ski jump in Innsbruck again.

There are still standing areas in the north and south areas of the stadium's seating bowl so this stadium may not be an all seater.

If Munich gets the 2018 winter olympics might then the stadium be renovated?

It will definitely happen. Although in the applicant bid book it does not specify the Olympiastadion as a venue, it will be the site of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
As such, expect an upgrade, perhaps the construction of new press boxes and general skyboxes. A similarly designed roof covering the open part. Most definitely the replacement of seating and like what Salt Lake City did, put temporary or even permanent individual seats on the parts without such seating.
Ok, so you can't have any major renovations due to it's historical status, but one should expect the placement of individual seats, renovation of concessions and the placement of new videoscreens and such.

They definitely won't extend the roof. They will probably renovate the toilets and the food/stuff (although that could be temporarily facilities). Seating should work well, it's not too old. If I remember correctly, the whole stadium has individual seats already. A viedowall probably would be temporarily as well. The press boxes should be enough as they were designed for Olympic games.

More money would probably be invested in the pool and the Olympic hall which both are planned as competition venues.

Is this stadium definitely an all-seater?

If so, how many seats does it currently have?

According to Wikipedia, this stadium has a capacity of 69,250, which is lower than 71,799.

And why do you have to say so twice on this page alone?

It definitely is an all-seater.
Eco-friendly? How would you define that. The construction would hardly fulfill current understanding of such. But it is 40 years old, back then such questions weren't that important.

By the way: For next year, the German sports car race series DTM plans a race (July 16th and 17th) at the stadium (like the Race of Champions) - from 2012 on as a regular stage within the championship:

Why does Wikipedia say that Olympiastadion has a capacity of 69,250, while this thread says that it has a capacity of 71,799?

Why is there a discrepancy?

I don't know, probably because of different sources or the 71.799 were the capacity before the last changes. According to the German Wikipedia, the 69.250 are the correct number.

Munich shows that it is indeed a winter sports city!
At the moment: FIS Alpine World Cup Parallel Slalom at the Olympiaberg: 25,000 visitors.
