The cauldron is in fact still there. Its position is behind the unroofed east stand - right where it was during the games (on the pics shot from Olympiaturm it is located left from the middle of the stand).
Yet ever since the bushes and trees in that area have grown and therefore especially in the warm season the cauldron can hardly be detected in panoramic views of the stadium.

In the times when I had a season ticket for "Olympiastadion" there wasn't any sign for information but I just googled "olympisches feuer münchen" and found that:

@Sercan: I would highly appreciate it if you would not remind me to that specific day. Thanks in advance.

The stadium of course is still beautiful.

I watched an interesting program about the Munich games yesterday on tv.

A mock-up of the Olympiastadion presented by the Munich OC at the IOC congress in 1965:

Thankfully they didn't build this concret monster...

A lot of athletic events at Berlin's Olympiastadion, so even though this stadium is incredible, it really has no purpose unfortunately.

That's simply just not true. Of course it currently doesn't have any big tennant like it did for decades with the FC Bayern München and the TSV 1860 München. But it does host plenty of concerts, motorsports events, church conventions and others. It's one of the two biggest venues that are regularly used for concerts and other cultural events in Munich.
So the stadium is indeed still being frequently used and certainly not without purpose as you say.
It's not even all that extremely unlikely that the TSV 1860 München might return to play there should they at some future point in time be able to make a deal with the FC Bayern to move out of the Allianz Arena.

That reminds me of Düsseldorf's old Rheinstadion which was built around 1970:

This constructions had destroyed the stadium! No wonder Günther Benisch, the architect of the 1972 Olympiastdion, said NO!

What is the exact capacity of this stadium,as an all seater? The uefa capacity 10 years ago was 59K,so this 69K is surely with terracing. What is the all-seater cap?It should be 63-65K but does anyone have exact figures(first rows included, even though they never selled those seats)pls.

It's good that there wasn't an agreement on the reconstruction of the good old Oly because we wouldn't have the Allianz Arena in this case.

But you have to keep in mind that all proposals for the reconstruction were done by Gunter Benisch himself. So in the end he took his own proposals back because of to much criticism.

Regarding the all seater capacity:
I don't know exactly but the UEFA capacity of 59k was under the condition that the first few rows were not used because of bad viewing conditions (angle). So I assume that it must be something about 63k regarding an all seater capacity if all chairs would be used.
