Iranian (Persian) Cinema, Television, and Theatre

In this thread I think we should talk about Iranian Cinema, Theatre, Television, and Iranian Celebs (in and out of Iran). Portray a good film or show that you really like. Put up a actor/actress/ singer or any other kind of celeb you would like us to know about. Put up Interviews and gossip. Etc, etc.

As for me, one of my FAVORITE Iranian films is Ali Santoori

Starring:

Bahram Radan

Golshifteh Farahani
(who recently came to the USA and played in "Body of Lies" with Leonardo De Caprio)

Synopsis:
A young singer, Ali Santoori (Bahram Radan), who in the begining has his life all organized and a bright future, suddenly falls under drugs and the suppression of the society. he eventualy looses his wife (Golshifteh Farahani) to another man and also becomes homeless. I won't ruin the end

It's a great movie!

The movie is based on a brilliant theme with several powerful points. From the beginning to the end, the movie plays with your feelings and grabs your attention so good that you actually want to watch it to the end. It shows the present musician life in Iran, without any support from the government and soon not respected from the people anymore. One of the best Iranian movie that I've ever watched. Is it banned in Iran? With all the obvious protests, I'm guessing that it is.

It was banned after it was shown 1/2 days in many cinema's, although it had the permission... . But after this you could buy the CD/DVD.

Ugh, I have to look more carefully. But that has western movies in it also, this thread is just for Iranian media only.

Death of Yazdgerd (1981)

Masterpiece of great Iranian playwright and Director Bahram Beyzaie first of two parts. Death of Yazdgerd is an an unusual, poetic drama that traces contemporary themes in a historical setting. Yazdgerd III was the last of the Sassanid kings of Iran. His death in 651, during the Arab invasions that brought Islam to this Zoroastrian realm, was mysterious.
(taken from the movie at google video)

Interesting also that this movie was made 2 years after the islamic revolution, yet the women's head were not covered yet.

The whole film is on Google Video, the quality is not that good though.

Interesting, the fact that it was made after the revolution is surprising. I shall watch it when I have free time.

I'm trying to say "Yeah, That is some good stuff!" I guess I wrote it wrong. I wanted to put something else in place of "Stoff" but I thought it would be too inappropriate, lol.
