Nice update fuwad. this airport looks big and a bit like dial.
but what looks ugly is those exposed airducts, hot water pipes, chilled water pipes and raw roof. i hope this is still under construction and hope they are working on drop ceiling to hide all that ugliness.

that's an industrial post modernist look that is very much in fashion all over the world. A lot of the stores and even apartments in NYC using this styling element.

IMO The only thing ugly in those pictures are those scraggly plants and the very chinsy made of thali steel check in counters.

That terminal looks as if its half done. Those look good at all,and i dont think the are part of an "industrial look".The check-in counters and the AC ducts also look flimsy.

14 flights diverted from Mumbai due to poor visibility

Dec 8 (PTI) Poor visibility at Mumbai airport due to smog forced authorities today to divert 14 flights scheduled to land here to neighbouring stations.

"As visibility dropped to below 1,500 meters due to smog at the airport, 14 flights have been diverted to other stations," a Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) spokesperson told PTI here today.

The flights were diverted to Pune, Aurangabad, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Bangalore, the spokesperson said.

The main runway of the Mumbai Airport remains closed every Tuesday between 12 noon and 6 pm due to re-construction work which is scheduled to be completed by March next year.

However, the shortened runway is kept open for flight operations during these hours, but only small aircraft can take-off or land from this runway.

Of the 14 flights diverted to other stations, five were of Kingfisher Airlines and nine of Jet Airways.

I dont think anyone was going for any Industrial Post-Modernist feel here. The material is too flimsy and the look is haphazard - no method seems apparant, if indeed they were aiming for that look. Its accidental if at all. Its just half finished half baked effort IMO. Shame really. It could have looked so nice. Maybe they will still drop a ceiling and hide those innards after BlueStar is done with the Airconditioning contract

What is truly ugly though is this obsession our babus all over the country have with potted plants . Area needs decoration? - bring out the freaking pots - ridiculous!

Delhi and Mumbai airports get additional CISF men

New Delhi, Jan 3 (PTI) In an effort to enhance security at Delhi and Mumbai airports, the government has sanctioned more than 800 additional security personnel.

Currently, both the airports have a combined strength of around 4,300 Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) men.

While the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport will have 289 new posts in the ranks of constables, sub-inspectors and inspectors, the Mumbai International Airport will have 518 additional CISF personnel.

The new strength will also be used to secure the vicinity of these airports as anti-sabotage measures and in view of heightened terror threats.

The strength of the security men drawn from the CISF has also been enhanced at the Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power project in Haryana (126 posts) and Ratnagiri Gas and Power Limited in Maharashtra (231 posts).

The Aurangabad airport has also been granted additional 55 posts of security men.

Mumbai, Jan 27 (PTI) GoAir has approached the State Government to start its services.

A presentation was given by the airlines officials today to Chief Minister Ashok Chavan here on starting new flight services to the airports.

"They presented the routes to the Government and their study on occupancy of passengers on particular routes," Aviation Secretary Sudhir Thakre said.

The Government also suggested them some routes like Mumbai-Hyderabad-Nanded, Delhi-Hyderabad-Nanded-Mumbai, Amritsar-Delhi-Hyderabad-Nanded, Mumbai-Aurangabad-Latur-Nanded and Mumbai-Solapur-Nanded-Hyderabad, Thakre said.

"We have asked them to check feasibility on the routes as the flight capacity is more," the official said.

Representatives from Reliance Industries were also present for the meeting, as the Nanded and Latur airports are under their authority, the official said.

Airports at Baramati, Osmanabad and Yavatmal are also looked after by the Reliance, he added.

AAI plans to levy development fee at non-metro airports
22 Apr 2010, 0320 hrs IST,Nirbhay Kumar,ET Bureau

NEW DELHI: Flying from smaller cities, such as Aurangabad, Srinagar and Dehradun, is likely to become costlier with the state-owned operator,
Airports Authority of India (AAI), proposing to levy a user development fee. AAI has sought the civil aviation ministry’s approval to levy user development fee or UDF ranging from Rs 250 to Rs 1,000 on those flying out from these airports, a government official said.

Airlines said the move will also hit traffic. “Air traffic on non-metro routes is still very low. Higher tariff would only act as a dampener,” an executive of a low-cost airline said.

AAI has sought the approval for a similar levy at Coimbatore and Madurai airports, along with several other smaller ones. While it has proposed a levy of Rs 500 on each domestic passenger flying out from these two airports, international travellers would have to fork out Rs 1,000 if the proposal is approved.

In case of Coimbatore airport the AAI has proposed to collect the fee for the next 10 years. At Madurai airport the levy is suppose to be for the next 15 years.

UDF is a charge levied by airport operator to recover part of its investment made for upgradation of an airport. Unlike metro airports where development fee is decided by the airports regulator, Airport Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA), AAI’s proposal would need only the aviation ministry’s nod as AERA does not have a jurisdiction over the smaller airports.

Consulting firm KPMG’s infrastructure analyst S Vasudevan said that till the government institutionalises a mechanism to determine tariff (landing, parking and other charges like navigation), AAI has every right to collect UDF in order to get reasonable return on investment. “But this should not result into super normal profit. We think AAI would not do so as its mandate is to provide airport infrastructure,” Mr Vasudevan said.

AAI, which owns most of the airports in the country, has invested about Rs 3,500 crore in modernising 24 non-metro airports. Besides, it is pumping in Rs 5,000 crore for upgrading Chennai and Kolkata airports. AAI’s airport upgrade work involves an investment of Rs 12,434 crore during the current Five-Year Plan ending March 2012.

Post Del-Aurangabad flight diverted for IPL players

AI diverted Del-Aurangabad flight too for IPL players
Headlines Today Bureau
New Delhi, April 23, 2010

It's not just the Delhi-Coimbatore flight (IC-7603) that Air India diverted to facilitate IPL players.

Headlines Today has learnt that on April 12, Air India's Delhi-Aurangabad flight (IC-887) via Mumbai made an unscheduled stop at Jaipur to pick up Sachin Tendulkar's Mumbai Indians.

In a day and night match on April 11, the Mumbai Indians had defeated the Rajasthan Royals. On April 13, they were scheduled to play the Delhi Daredevils in Mumbai.

Accordingly on April 12, IC-887 scheduled from Delhi to Aurangabad via Mumbai was asked to make an unscheduled landing in Jaipur.

According to the information available, the plane took off 45 minutes late from Delhi at 1 pm. It landed in Jaipur at 2.20 pm. Having picked up the Mumbai Indians, it then flew to Mumbai much behind its normal arrival schedule at 3.05 pm.

This is the second flight that Air India diverted for IPL players. Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel's daughter Poorna Patel is already in the dock for getting a scheduled Air India flight to ferry herself and some IPL players to Chennai.
