Fuwad - I commend your zeal in posting updates on Aurangabad airport! You are the one and only poster from SSCI who gives regular updates on Aurangabad Airport. Commendable !!

While it is good to know that the airport is finally completed, I couldn't help but notice the air conditioning duct aluminum panels that are so badly beaten and placed. Did someone from AAI bought them second hand from a scrap yard S.T Bus ? This is supposed to be an airport where you have international tourists pouring in to marvel at the wonders of Ajanta / Ellora. While the thousand year old heritage sites are still standing in perfection, it is sad to see how these aluminum panels leave an impression on the Hawk Eyed visitors

In any case, wishing Aurangabad Airport all the success. Der se aaye, par aaye to durusst !

Well, p2p4, I suppose the moral of the story is never have expectations when it comes to AAI. Personally, I wish U/C and upcoming airports can incoporate elements of the local/regional architecture (like Cochin's airport). A city that I visit when I come to India, Chennai, is undergoing expansion but the design is too plain Plus there's the usual delays.

On a side note, I always thought that Praful Patel was so far the best aviation minister we've had. Now, he's been replaced by an aging socialist who thinks he can turn around good-old sarkari global bus, oops I mean Air India, without taking on the unions. A lot of the flaws we see in non-privatized, AAI airports are due lack of creative thinking in the AAI bureaucracy.

funny thing is that Vayalar Ravi was made Civil Aviation Minister mostly because of his ability to handle Unions...something that did'nt work with Praful Patel, a seasoned businessman whose focus was infrastructure and the private sector....Air India is a mess, there is no way to handle it other than through the Unions....and shutting down the airline company is not an option in India!!

City to get air connectivity to Hyderabad

Manish gajhbiye Aurangabad

July 14: In a development that will open the gateways of South India to the air passengers from Aurangabad, two airlines plan to start flights to Hyderabad, very soon. Of them, Jet Airways will be introducing its flight during the winter schedule.

According to highly placed sources, traders, pilgrims visiting Tirupati Balaji and other centres of pilgrimage, the families going for vacations and local industrialists had been pressing for an air link to South India. Similarly, the pilgrims coming from South India to Shirdi were also seeking a flight to Aurangabad from Hyderabad. After a detailed survey, Jet Airways is planning to introduce Aurangabad-Hyderabad-Delhi flight in the winter schedule. It will be a Boeing 737 with a capacity of 145 passengers. The timing will be 8 am to 8.30 am, so a person visiting Hyderabad can plan his further journey to other South Indian towns. The return flight could be introduced in the evening, but its details are still being worked out.

Chikalthana airport controller D G Salve also confirmed the development. He said the proposal of the Jet Airways to start this flight had come to him two months ago. It is most likely that the airline would begin this service during the winter, he said.

SpiceJet also plans Hyderabad flight
Meanwhile, another private domestic airline SpiceJet also plans to start a Hyderabad flight, soon.

According to SpiceJet sources, a proposal has been submitted to the local office of the Airport Authority of India (AAI). However, the airline is yet to do a survey for the feasibility of the flight. The official announcement will be made after completing the technicalities, the sources added.

Details like timetable, type of plane to be introduced and date of the inaugural service have not been finalised yet.

Airport controller Salve confirmed the receipt of the SpiceJet proposal. "A team of SpiceJet will conduct a survey very soon and the service is likely to start in August," he added.
