It does have some odd designs. The giant archway and train in left field, and the hill and pole, in play, in dead center.

Does anyone else think that this stadium has the wrong aesthetic for a team called the "Astros"?
Sure if they reverted to the Colt 45's then a retro park would suit but the Astros?
In keeping with the novel architecture of baseball through notions of a romantic venacular, wouldn't a Googie, Bubble, Jetsons inspired stadium have been better. Think Seatle space needle to Disney's tomorrowland.

No, not quite. The Astrodome was state of the art 60's. As I said in my post "novel architecture" and a "Romantic Venacular". Again think House of Tomorrow, buzz lightyear, I've said jetsons. Road Culture. That's not to say forget the Astrodome, it is an icon and is the main reason why i believe there should have been a continuation in the futurist essence of the Astrodome and the team (which changed its name over 40 years ago becaus eof the Dome), so no to Cookiecutter rationalisation but yes to entertainment architecture in the spirit of the Team Name and Houstons image association with NASA and space.

so adding a pirate ship to the end zone means the entire stadium was designed thinking about the "Buccaneers?"

If the Cowboys put a saloon and O.K. coral at both end zones of their New Stadium would you then say that the Death Star look of it was now built to match the "Cowboy" theme of the cowboys?

That is the only part of the stadium that says a Pirate theme team plays here.

Stadium are built to house a game, not a logo.

There would have been nothing wrong with designing a futuristic style ballpark for the Astros. Stop arguing for the sake of arguing. This has nothing to do with a logo.

What if the team wasnt called the Astros and they still built a futuristic stadium? Would it matter?

It would have been built one of 2 ways no matter what. Retro (Almost all Ball Parks now) or Futuristic (Almost all Football stadiums... -Lucas Oil Field) For the part of Downtown Houston it is in the Retro look is best.

I love the inside, cant stand the outside, but the Astros have done a good job at branding their team for the Retro look of the stadium.

Jeez Lousie, I was only talking of essence, not a theme park, the pics were just to illustrate the difference between what I was reffering to and the old Astrodome. I just felt that contempory design with a little starship fun was more appropriete than a retro park. Take Gillette Stadium, thats contemporary but with a gesture to the region in the light house, much better than another retro park.

The image in my mind was more like the revovated Kauffman Ballpark and Arrowhead stadium in KC or the Lords Pressbox.

Quite possibly the best pic i've seen of MMP. The only thing that would have made this better is if it was sold out!
