Not only that, there's also a locomotive pulling a carload of ... pumpkins? If it was oranges it would make sense (Minute Maid... Get it?). Regarding the loc, the reason is that the building abutting the stadium used to be a train station, although not many people know this.

Those pumpkins you are referring to are oranges

In keeping with the novel architecture of baseball through notions of a romantic venacular, wouldn't a Googie, Bubble, Jetsons inspired stadium have been better. Think Seatle space needle to Disney's tomorrowland.
thats a great point and a great idea! Given the name, it would have been cool to see a stadium built more space age and with more of a Googie/Tommorowland feel. That style is one of my personal favorites. They could at least have gotten rid of the orange train and built a rocket or something instead in homage to Houston's history with space exploration.

As unrealistic as it is, I love the idea to have stadiums that match the character of the team name and city.

Tribute to Yankee Stadium (before remodeling) from what I read.

I hate the retractable roof stadiums with the giant roof on one side. It looks really bad. I think the new Marlins Stadium is going to have the best one since none of it will be over the field when it's not in use.

I don't like mechanical monstrosities covering baseball stadiums but this one is not bad. It doesn't look like an erector set like Safeco, or a huge mechanical flower poised to crush you like Miller Park.

Actually it does look like an erector set in person. When attending a game there, it really feels like you're in a hanger. Not on Bank One levels of warehousiness, but close. Weird exterior too, but I like it.

Yeah you get a little bit of a hangar feeling there. Back in 2006 I saw a game there with the roof open and was surprised how open and airy the place felt. Houston is lucky to have MMP.

As a non baseball fan from Europe I am surprised to say that I like this stadium a lot. One of my absolute favorites.

That little hill is part of the field isn't it? That's strange, is it the only thing like that in baseball?

I know a cricket ground has a tree in it! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Lawrence_Ground

I believe it was included as an homage to old Crosley Field in Cincinnati and possibly Fenway Park prior to its 1934 renovation. It's a little over the top, IMO.

Actually Tigers Stadium was the park with the flag pole in play. Comerica park used to have the flag pole in play until they moved the fences in.

Tiger Stadium, got to get the name right. Tiger Stadium/Briggs Stadium/Navin Field didn't have an incline in the outfield like Crosley and Fenway did.
