Tribes/Ethnic groups in Africa
I did this because i have to do a presentation about it and i need help, seeing that there are alot of Africans here, it will be easier using you guys to do it. I only know tribes in Nigeria that's it .And also cause i'm interested to see how each tribe in African countries look like
Maybe this will help, it seems i confused alot of people. "I need tribes name and a picture or 2 that will represent that specific tribe." That's actually the main purpose of this topic. You can include where the tribes are located, their language, etc --- most likely i'll do that research by myself I hope that clarify things. Anyway, For Nigeria are HAUSA ![]() ![]() ![]() YORUBA ![]() ![]() IGBO ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() CALABAR EFIK/IBIBIO ![]() ![]() FULANI/WOODABE ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() MANGA KANURI ![]() ![]() ![]() anyway, hope you guys get involved with this. Excuse my ignorance but I cant really distinguish any physical aspects from the above pics.In SA,we come in all shapes, shades and sizes really, the only way to decipher a person's ethnicity is the language they speak.I believe we share our geneology with our immediate neighbours (Bots,Nam,Zim etc) but going further up,one notices a change, more sharper features.

I know i'll talk about language, cultures, etc. I got all that down from wiki and some books but i need pictures from the individual in each tribes. For example: I got information about the Afar and Amhara tribe of ethiopia but i don't know anyone from that tribe that will represent each and for congo, i got informations about the Bakongo people of congo but i don't know anyone that will represent the group.
And i have information on Ashante/Ashanti of Ghana but i don't know anyone that can represent the group. it's a african course, according to the teacher we need to be creative with it. Hence the reason i'm here, cause i need ya'll to direct me to people from each tribes and also i need more tribes to research such as tribes in Congo, any East African country, any North African countries, etc |

Somalia isn't like many other African countries, it's not diverse. It's overwhelmingly Ethnic Somali (90%+) and almost all Sunni/Sufi Muslim. There are "tribes", but not in the context of tribe=ethnicity. Tribes (or clan, or qabil) are family lineages. Their place in society has been overblown in the last few decades, and that's why we had our neverending war...
The southern part of the country is more diverse. There are small minorities of Bantus, Benadiris and Bravanese (both are mixed with Arabs), but not even there do they make a big % of the population. But in the northern areas, where I am from, there are almost literally NO minorities. There are probably lots of people who have never seen a non-Somali in their life, let alone someone of a different skin color in that country. Well, here are some pics of Somalis... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Somalis are also the majority population in Djibouti, and are present in large numbers in Ethiopia and Kenya. Hope that helped, and if you need more, just ask.

Only difference in South Africa I think in general in comparison to the rest of the countries up north you guys got alot more light skinned people esp. Xhosa other than that people look generally the same. Size is also different, South African are a little bit bigger but Zuma and KumWanza are about the same size to much of that ugali or sadzi would do that to you.
