It will still be a great shiny glass tower.

God, I had completely forgotten this was originally supposed to be 1250 ft. Like Tower Verre in NYC, this tower is so good looking it really deserved the extra height to make it a true skyline centerpiece.

I find the current design much more pleasing than the original proposal. But it's true, the current design is much shorter...although this will be LA's tallest building if the spire is included in the height, US Bank is still taller if the spire is not taken into account, plus US Bank stands on significantly higher ground. Thus US Bank will still look the tallest building even after Wilshire Grand is completed.

The original double building design had the office building at 1250' The hotel was the other building at 750' As for the US Bank the north side is up on the hill several floors above 5th Street at 350' MSL The main entrance to the lobby across 5th street from the library is at 296' MSL This is where the 1018' AGL height is counted from. Not on top of the hill on the North side. The WG is at 286' MSL at it's height starting point. This is only 10' lower then the US Bank.

That original design reminds me very much of the Hudson Yards. Are they by the same architect?

While I don't know specifics on elevations above sea level, keep in mind that if the narrow spire is excluded, US Bank is still about 100 feet taller than Wilshire Grand. That plus sitting on higher topography means that US Bank should still appear as the highpoint of the skyline. This does not matter to me - I think both buildings are very attractive skyscrapers.

1018' and 934' to the roof of each building. Ground elevations at there lobby levels are 296' and 286' It is cool that we will be able to go to the tops of both to check out the view.
